Blackstock Road: Extensive police cordon after car crashes into Sheffield house followed by reported firearm discharge

An extensive extensive police cordon is in place on Blackstock Road in Sheffield today after a car was crashed into a Gleadless home, reportedly followed by a firearm discharge.

00:00Morning Sheffield, it's Alistair from the Sheffield Star. I'm speaking to you from

00:03Blackstock Road where you can see behind me there's a very extensive cordon here

00:06in Gleasless Valley today. This is December the 6th at around 9.45 in the

00:11morning. What we're told is that police arrived here about midnight last night,

00:15not on sirens, but an extensive cordon has been set up in the area. I walked

00:19around and everything from just spare back gardens to footpaths and all sorts

00:24have all been taped off in a cat's cradle of police tape. It's absolutely

00:28everywhere. Including that is that there's a massive closure in place. I've

00:33got Spotswood Road at the bottom of Blackstock Road here all the way up to

00:39Plowright Drive at the very top have all been closed off. A lot of residents say

00:43they can't get out, they can't get their cars out, they've got to go pick up their

00:45children or do the school run and buses have been diverted as well. It's

00:49caused some great disruption. We've been speaking to residents in the area and

00:52it's quite the mystery what this all might be about. The most obvious cause

00:55would be this house that's behind me inside the police cordon that's had some

00:58very extensive damage to it. However, residents have told me that a car was

01:02driven into there two days ago. If this house is to do with it, the damage was

01:07done on the 4th of December at around 7.30 p.m. in the evening, two days ago.

01:12Residents say that as much as that, a car was driven into it and it caused some

01:16extensive damage. It's now boarded up and it's been propped up with these iron

01:20bars you might be able to see behind me. And then the police arrived last night a

01:24full 36 hours after that incident. So if it is related, it's really not obvious.

01:28Other than that, it's a very extensive cordon. We can't see any obvious cause,

01:32although we are speaking to South Yorkshire Police as to what might have

01:35happened here and if anyone's been injured. We'll be able to bring you more

01:38on the story as it happens. But in the meantime, it's a very

01:41disruptive police scene down here in Gleadless Valley that's affecting a lot

01:44of residents and no one seems to know what it might be about.
