00:00you are still very much entrenched in Stephen King's work.
00:04And the news about a new Carrie series
00:07was a pleasant surprise.
00:09And since there's already been three movie adaptations,
00:13a stage musical, and a sequel, how
00:17will this new incarnation stand apart from those?
00:21Well, I don't want to get into the specific details,
00:24only to say that it absolutely has to.
00:29One of the only questions I had when it was first
00:31put on the table was, why?
00:35And if I couldn't answer, why do this again for myself,
00:38then there was no point in pursuing the project.
00:41It's the same muscle, I will say, that it's
00:45the same feeling I had when we approached
00:47the turn of the screw, which had been adapted dozens of times.
00:51And it's like, OK, how do we do this completely differently?
00:53I can't spoil our approach to Carrie only to reassure people
00:57we're not retreading the same story,
01:01that it is definitely a new approach to the material
01:06and one that Stephen King is excited about,
01:10which is also important to me.
01:11Because his first question was also mine, which was, why?
01:16Steve's first reaction was, why do that again?
01:19It's been done.
01:20And it's been done beautifully, arguably perfectly
01:23by De Palma, and then done again for reasons.
01:27Why do it again now?
01:29And so when he went through the proposal
01:32that I put together for it, his reaction was, oh, this
01:35is actually very exciting to him.
01:38And then I said, OK, if he's excited, then we should do this.
01:42But otherwise, I wouldn't have done it.
01:46But yeah, so I can't be more specific, unfortunately,
01:49other than to say it will be a very pleasant surprise
01:52for fans.
