00:00There were calls for the president of South Korea to step down after he declared a martial law that only lasted for 6 hours.

00:08Joseph Moro has a report.

00:14Early in the morning, a protest broke out outside the parliament in Seoul, South Korea.

00:19Screams and shouts were heard.

00:24Soldiers entered the parliament building by helicopter.

00:29Some of them even broke windows.

00:31That's the situation after the emergency martial law was declared last night.

00:35South Korean President Yun Suk-yool

00:37I am here to protect the Republic of Korea from the threat of the North Korean Communist Party

00:43and to protect the freedom and happiness of our people.

00:47I am here to eradicate the despicable anti-national forces and to uphold the rule of freedom.

00:56The opposition, which was called a parliamentary process, called for the martial law to be abolished.

01:02But the martial law only lasted for 6 hours after the members of the National Assembly voted to repeal it.

01:09Because of the declaration of the martial law, the opposition called for Yun to resign immediately.

01:14There were also 6 opposition parties who voted in favor of his impeachment.

01:19The Opposition Democratic Party also said that they will file treason charges against Yun,

01:26as well as against his defense and interior ministers, who also plan to impeach him.

01:32According to our embassy in South Korea, the situation there has returned to normal

01:37after a few hours of martial law.

01:39The Department of Foreign Affairs also does not prohibit people from going to South Korea.

01:45Business as usual here in Korea, in Seoul.

01:48The airports are open.

01:52The train system, public transport, and regular operations are still the same.

02:00But according to our embassy, Filipinos should still be careful and avoid large public gatherings.

02:05Last night, many rallyists held candlelight vigils in Seoul.

02:10According to the DFA, the alert level in South Korea has not yet been raised.

02:14Even if the tension worsens, our government does not worry about sending home the more than 60,000 Filipinos working there.
