00:00A Russian attack submarine, or UFA-490, was spotted in the West Philippine Sea on November 28,

00:06some 80 nautical miles west of Cape Calavite and Occidental Mindoro.

00:11For the president, any intrusion to the country's exclusive economic zone, or EEZ, is alarming.

00:17But he left it to Philippine authorities to handle such intrusion.

00:21According to the armed forces of the Philippines,

00:23the Navy's BRP Jose Rizal escorted the Russian submarine

00:27while it also deployed an aircraft to monitor the vessel's movements.

00:31The AFP also reported the Russian sub's crew responded to radio communication

00:36and explained it had just participated in a military exercise with the Royal Malaysian Navy

00:41and was only waiting for weather conditions to become better

00:44for it to continue its journey back to its naval base in Vladivostok.

00:48Philippine authorities did not detect any illegal activity from the submarine,

00:53which traveled on the surface as it traversed the West Philippine Sea, or WPS.
