Guys, Ed Walters here.
00:05
We're at Las Colinas Golf Club in Alicante in Spain, and I'm going to give you a drill
00:09
that you can do at home as well as on the driving range and before you play to help
00:14
your pivot, your body rotation improve in your golf swing.
00:19
Now, common that we see is, you know, some guys really, really nice setup, and then we
00:26
see a backswing which looks a little bit like this, or we see a backswing which looks then
00:32
a little bit like this.
00:34
And the big thing with that is the body's pivot and especially the upper body is not
00:40
moving in the desired way that we need it to, to be efficient and to be powerful as
00:45
well.
00:46
So what we need to make sure that we do is we keep as close as we possibly can an alignment
00:52
between the center of the shoulders and the center of the hips as well.
00:57
So if you look at your shirt buttons and your belt buckle, we need to keep them as aligned
01:01
as we possibly can.
01:03
So when we would be taking our setup position, what we don't want to do is go this way because
01:11
what we've done there is we've made a turn, but the one thing we haven't done is we haven't
01:16
extended the spine angle to retain our position and our nice control of the pivot and the
01:24
turn and the power.
01:26
So if we look at the golf swing, we've got the turn, we've got the forward bend, and
01:34
a slight extension in the spine angle to retain our position there nice and smoothly and powerfully.
01:41
And from there, we can really unwind and get a real powerful downswing.
01:45
If we think about it, the most powerful muscles in your golf swing are glutes and quads followed
01:51
by your core.
01:52
So if they're not getting themselves in the right position, you're going to struggle,
01:56
massively struggle, then you become very hands and armsy and totally inconsistent.
02:00
So drill that we need to do.
02:02
I want you to get your club and I want you to place it right on the very top of your
02:06
shoulders, just in there.
02:09
In your setup position, a little forward bend into here, okay, I want you to get the
02:15
club head as I've got it here to go down towards the ground, almost towards the inside of your
02:23
trailing foot.
02:27
And then in the downswing and throughswing, you want to get the belt buckle to rotate
02:32
towards the target, getting the grip end down into that position, then we're going to go
02:37
around and through into a great finish.
02:40
So when we see that from the face-on position, we're going down as we rotate, and as you
02:48
see there, there's no movement to one side or the other.
02:52
So my spine's tilting, turning, it's extending, all in one motion to there, and then I can
02:59
push through, down, and into the finish.
03:03
Now that drill, five minutes a day at home, even if you wanted to, you could place your
03:08
forehead on the door frame, do it in the door frame to get used to making that movement
03:13
to start with.
03:14
But the more you do it, the better you get at it, and it doesn't take long for your pivot
03:18
and your rotation of the body to get better and better and better when you're out on the
03:21
golf course where it really matters.
03:23
Now I'm going to give you a view when I hit this shot of how stable the body rotation
03:29
is.
03:30
It's difficult really to see stability from a fast movement, especially with the arms
03:34
in the way in the front view.
03:36
So I'm going to give you a different view, I'm going to give you this one.
03:40
Because from this angle here, you can see everything, how stable and centered the body's
03:45
rotation is, and then round into that finish.
03:51
So I'm going to hit this shot for you now, and I'm going to make that nice movement,
03:57
turning, tilting, extending all the way through, and into the finish position.
04:06
And then we get a beautifully crisp strike, lovely control on the ball flight, loads of
04:11
power, loads of distance.
04:12
Guys, make sure you do it, five minutes a day, you know, you could be there watching
04:16
the news, you could be watching the sport, anything on TV, just standing there and making
04:20
sure you prepare so when you get on the golf course, everything works much, much better.
04:24
Guys, thanks for watching.
