Georgia is suspending its EU application process until the end of 2028, Prime Minister
00:08
Irakli Kobakhidze said on Thursday, according to Georgian media.
00:13
During a press briefing, Kobakhidze reaffirmed that Georgia-EU relations are bilateral and
00:19
can only be bilateral.
00:21
His announcement came as MEPs called for a parliamentary election re-run within a year
00:27
and adopted a resolution on Thursday condemning the results, citing serious irregularities,
00:33
whilst they criticised the ruling Georgian Dream Party for the country's democratic decline.
00:40
The resolution refers to serious electoral violations including voter intimidation, vote
00:46
manipulation and interference with observers and the media.
00:50
MEPs urge the international community not to recognise the results.
00:56
On the same day, the Georgian parliament approved its new cabinet of ministers, whilst
01:01
Irakli Kobakhidze will continue to serve as prime minister.
01:05
The vote took place in a half-empty chamber, with the opposition refusing to participate
01:10
as it does not recognise the parliament's legitimacies.
