'Like Water For Chocolate’s' Lead Recalls The Hilariously Awkward Text Exchange She Had With Producer Salma Hayek

Speaking of the star producer, when CinemaBlend spoke to two of the series’ leads about this exciting project, they shared how Hayek welcomed them and how that led to a funny text miscommunication.  Salma Hayek’s latest producing credit leans into her Mexican roots as she has worked behind the scenes to bring a new version of "Like Water For Chocolate" to audiences over 30 years after the magical realism classic was turned into a movie. Andrea Chaparro, who plays Gertrudis, shared how Hayek first greeted the Spanish-language cast to the show.

00:10And then eventually we would FaceTime every once in a while if we could.

00:23Yes, I have a funny story about the text she sent us.

00:28Um, I think I was the first to talk about this.

00:32She texted us at the same time, I think.

00:35But I did not know.

00:37So I got a text message from a United States number.

00:43And I was like, it was it said, I'm so happy.

00:48You're going to do great and come up with a chocolate.

00:50You're going to be a great data.

00:53And I was like, I got scared.

00:55So I was like, who did I tell?

00:58I was panicking.

00:59I was, who else knows?

01:00I wasn't supposed to tell anyone.

01:03Did I tell anyone?

01:04Um, I was panicking.

01:06And then he said, Salma.

01:07And I said, Oh my God, who's Salma?

01:09Oh my God, I feel so bad.

01:10They're gonna, uh, no, no, they're gonna say something to me.

01:14And then I said it out loud.

01:15And I said, who's Salma?

01:18They were like, really?

01:19They were like, girl, wait, what?

01:23Salma Hayek?

01:25And then I clicked and I was like, Oh my God.

01:27Yeah, it felt good.
