Preview of 2024’s Glasgow Pavilion pantomime Beauty and the Beastie

We visit the Pavilion Theatre to speak to the cast of Beauty and the Beastie.

00:00My name is Jennifer and I am playing Beauty this year in Beauty and the Beastie.

00:05It is a love story, it's very magical this year, it's a bit different from last year.

00:11Last year we had a lot of adventure and a lot of fun and excitement and this year has that,

00:16but a little bit more sprinkled on top.

00:18We follow Beauty and her mum, Professor Porridge,

00:23and their next door neighbours, Dolly Drumchapel and Hector,

00:27who work for Prince Lorenzo in Castle Cludgey.

00:31Along the way we meet other characters like Benedict Bridey and his two henchmen,

00:37Hammy and Tammy, and Benedict is set upon being married to Belle,

00:44or Beauty as she's called in this panto.

00:47It's just a whole load of magical moments, funny moments,

00:52some chaotic moments as well, we've got a few audience favourites in there this year as well.

00:57What's good about it is that it is written for the Glasgow audiences,

01:02it makes them part of it as well.

01:04When it's places, people, things that they all know and love,

01:08it sort of just involves them as well in the whole process of it.

01:13I think we always have the pavilion audiences especially in mind

01:18for those little tweaks and those little changes that make it just Glasgow.

01:23This building, I think we were talking about it this morning,

01:26it's about 100, 101 years old, it is steeped in a lot of history

01:31and for me personally, I love this place.

01:35It's like a family, it's like a wee home.

01:38You become friends and family with the backstage staff,

01:43the front of house staff, the cast are so tight

01:47and it's just steeped in so much history with the people that have worked here.

01:51You can see all the pictures on the walls,

01:53everywhere has something that reminds you of who've performed here,

01:58who became what they became whilst being here.

02:03I am really excited for people to see this show

02:07because it has a little bit of everything in it this year.

02:11There's the fun, the excitement, the adventure,

02:14there's the love story, there's so many magical moments.

02:18I think we're all just really proud of it,

02:20we're really excited to get it in front of an audience

02:22because it's great, you've got a really, really great cast,

02:25really great songs, great numbers, ensemble,

02:28the kids are amazing this year as well.

02:30It's got a little bit of everything that we just can't wait to show everyone

02:35and spread that Christmas cheer and excitement with everybody.
