00:00We're committed to the 2030 target for phasing out the purchase of new petrol and diesel cars,
00:07but it is really important within that to make sure that we get the balance right
00:11and a proper support for the automotive sector, for the car industry in Britain.
00:17We've just launched a consultation to look at the plans that we inherited from the previous
00:22government which would have meant fines for businesses that didn't sell a proportion of
00:27electric vehicles because we want to keep investment, we want to keep jobs in Britain
00:32and that's why we're launching this consultation. We're looking at the fines that we would inherit
00:37from the previous government that would be applied to businesses including car manufacturers here in
00:43Britain for not selling a high enough proportion of electric vehicles. We want to get that balance
00:48right, we want people to buy electric vehicles, but we want to keep jobs, we want to keep
00:52investment in Britain and we're determined through the consultation to do just that.
