Fawad Khan reveals what he misses about Bollywood

"You have old wounds and you heal from them…” Fawad Khan, who is returning to Indian screens with “Barzakh”, talked to Brut about being away from Bollywood, “cancel culture” and more.

00:04So I've had a lot of that kind of a good time in Bombay as well.

00:08I miss that aspect of it.

00:42You know, like I made some friends, and it was a part.

00:48I was a part of that for whatever number of years that I was there.

00:54And it is a different world.

01:00And I experienced it, and I experienced a great ride.

01:03So to say that I miss it would be more than missing it.

01:12I think I miss maybe the relationships or the frequency of, you know, getting to know

01:18people there.

01:19You'd have a good time other than work as well.

01:24So I've had a lot of that kind of a good time in Bombay as well.

01:29I miss that aspect of it.

01:43I think fame and vanity can become an addiction.

01:47And I'm sure that it has to a certain degree in my case as well.

01:50But to keep myself in check, I try to stay away from it as much as possible.

01:55So that, you know, I can try to remain somewhat grounded.

02:01I didn't do a lot of work because I didn't feel the need to be present on social media

02:10because my approach may be a bit different from others.

02:14I wanted to be something that I enjoy.

02:17And I feel the responsibility or the need to have your presence felt all the time becomes

02:25more and more necessary.

02:26You become more addicted to that.

02:28And then you kind of start drifting away from your own self, you know, because to be in

02:35that position, you have to be constant.

02:38People say that you wear a tuxedo all the time.

02:43That's kind of like a tux, you know, because you have to maintain a certain persona or

02:46a character to be available 24-7.

02:50And then you stop losing the ability of being just your relaxed self.

03:02So the thing is that I feel that I've been pretty much consistent over the years, even

03:09before social media hit the scene.

03:11I feel that since then, I've been concise.

03:15I try to be as concise as possible and try to keep my opinion relevant to the work that

03:22I'm doing.

03:23Because when you start going into areas where your expertise is limited on the subject and

03:30then start commenting on that, I feel that you open yourself up to the dangers of being

03:36criticized.

03:37If I have something to say on something, then I should be very well versed on it.

03:40And that is why it will take time for me to learn the subject.

03:45And then if I'm prepared to talk about it, then I will talk about it.

03:48And if I feel very strongly about it, but I don't have to present an opinion on everything.

03:54It's not necessary for me.

03:55And it's not my job either.

04:05I feel that OTT series allows you to experiment in narrative.

04:09And because of this, the narrative of Barzakh is somewhat experimental.

04:15And I think it kind of caters to the creative hunger of an artist.

04:19So I think I jumped to the opportunity, one, because of that.

04:23And most importantly, because of the script that I read.

04:30For me, I think it's healing from the past and moving to a future that can be uncomfortable.

04:38Moving to an unknown future, in which there will be losses, but I think rediscovering

04:43of bonds.

04:44It's like repairing and moving forward in life.

04:50You know, you heal from your old wounds and the process will leave you scarred.

04:59But there will be at least some kind of a resolution to things in life.
