Rohit Sharma unlocked his emotions on World Cup loss

“I feel disappointed, but...” uttered Rohit Sharma after a month of silence as he reflected on India's heart-wrenching defeat in the 2023 World Cup finals.

00:00It wasn't easy to digest.

00:02Along with us, they were dreaming of lifting that World Cup.

00:06After that finals, it was very hard to get back and start moving.

00:31I had no idea how to come back from this.

00:35The first few days, I didn't know what to do.

00:37My family, my friends kept me going.

00:41Kept things pretty light around me, which was quite helpful.

00:47It wasn't easy to digest.

00:50But yeah, life moves on. You have to move on in life.

00:54But honestly, it was tough.

00:57It was not so easy to just move on.

01:00I've always grown up watching the 50-year-old World Cup.

01:04And to me, that was the ultimate prize.

01:07The 50-year-old World Cup.

01:09So we've worked all these years for that World Cup.

01:14And it is disappointing, right?

01:17If you don't get through it and you don't get what you want,

01:21what you've been looking for all this while,

01:23what you were dreaming of.

01:26You get disappointed and you get frustrated as well at times.

01:31I thought we did everything we could from our side.

01:34If someone asked me, what went wrong?

01:37Because we won 10 games.

01:40And in that 10 games, yes, we made mistakes.

01:43But that mistake happens in every game that you play.

01:47You cannot have a perfect game.

01:49You can have a near-perfect game, but you cannot have a perfect game.

01:53If I look on the other side of it, I am really proud of the team as well.

01:57Because how we played was simply outstanding.

02:00Because you don't get to perform like that every World Cup.

02:06And I'm pretty sure at least how we played up until that finals,

02:11it would have given people a lot of joy, a lot of pride watching the team play.

02:18After that finals, it was very hard to get back and start moving,

02:24which is why I decided that I need to go somewhere and just get my mind out of this.

02:33But then wherever I was, I realized that people were coming up to me

02:38and they were appreciating everyone's effort, how well we played.

02:42Yeah, I mean, I feel for all of them, right?

02:45Because they all along with us, they were dreaming of lifting that World Cup along with us.

02:51Everywhere we went during this entire World Cup campaign,

02:55there was so much support from everyone who came to the stadium firstly

03:01and then people who were watching it from home as well.

03:04I want to appreciate what people have done for us in that one and a half months.

03:12But again, if I think more and more on that, I just feel quite disappointed

03:16that we were not able to go through all the way.

03:19For me to see people coming up to me and telling me that they were very proud of the team

03:26made me feel really good to a certain extent.

03:30And along with them, I was healing as well because I felt,

03:39okay, this is the kind of things that you want to hear.

03:43When you meet people, when they understand what the player must be going through

03:49and when they know these kind of things and not to bring out that frustration, that anger,

03:56it means a lot for us.

04:00For me, definitely it meant a lot because there was no anger.

04:04It was just pure love from the people that I met.

04:08And it was wonderful to see that.

04:10So, it gives you motivation to get back and start working again

04:14and look for another ultimate prize.
