Coun Ben Miskell says Fargate, Sheffield, revamp will be 'substantially finished' by end of February, after almost two years.

00:00So we're on the top half of Fargate at the moment and as you can see this area is coming back to life.

00:06You've got Christmas markets that are happening here.

00:09That's what we are going to be seeing over the next few weeks, that this space is going to be activated once more.

00:15We've got a new event space that's going to be opening up.

00:19So the ground has been dug up and it has caused short-term disruption to put in lots of new utilities

00:25to make sure that there's opportunities to connect up street stalls to power.

00:29We know that we can hold all sorts of different events

00:32and we also know that we are going to be at a larger complete by the end of February.

00:37So we have seen short-term pain but this is really for long-term gain to really regenerate the city centre.

00:44But a lot of people have commented about some of the barriers

00:48and it's been great that people can see the work to see actually what's happening on the street.

00:53Normally in construction schemes like this you often get a big physical barrier here that you can't see behind.

01:00We've had to put in very different type of railings because these have had to move

01:06and that's because the street continues to be active.

01:09People need to be able to get access to the shops, those barriers move around the street

01:13and as a result people see the progress of the work and they see it every day.

01:17And I can understand why sometimes that creates a little bit of confusion

01:21because they do constantly move as a result of needing to be able to facilitate shops to continue to trade.
