00:00The aim is to ensure that we give youths an opportunity to understand the benefits that
00:09they can obtain by being members of Police Youth Club, instead of aligning themselves
00:19with gangs.
00:21And therefore, every effort is being made by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service
00:28to ensure that we whet the appetite of our young people in providing opportunities to
00:39utilize their lesser time, instead of falling prey to social ills.
00:46ACP Collis Hazel is also the founder of the Roxborough Police Youth Club.
00:51He praised the new police team in Tobago, led by ACP Oswin Sabero and Senior Superintendent
00:58of Police Earl Eli, for their strategic crime-fighting methods.
01:03I want to say kudos to the Acting Assistant Commissioner and his team, who are, and Senior
01:12Superintendent, who are working assiduously in order to ensure that we reduce crime and
01:20criminality on the island.
01:22Of course, we look forward to working together to ensure that these various elements of crime
01:30are reduced holistically throughout Trinidad and Tobago.
01:34ACP Hazel said there is a downward trend of serious crimes in Tobago, but there remains
01:40a challenge.
01:42But there is hope.
01:44Of course, we continue to see downward trends in which there is serious crime.
01:50However, our challenge continues to be that of shootings, woundings, and murders, and
01:59of course, extortion, which continues to hamper the crime-fighting strategies.
02:10Member of the Roxborough Police Youth Club, Jani Campbell, said,
02:14Through the Roxborough Police Youth Club and other police youth clubs in the country that
02:20focus on positive youth engagement.
02:23Let's take the Roxborough Police Youth Club, for example.
02:26They have had agricultural programs, cooking programs, academic programs to boost your
02:32academic readiness for even CSEC exams.
02:36There are a plethora of other things, such as those interested in the orange economy
02:40and creative arts.
