‘This tax will finish off farms’

Anger was high in London with thousands of British farmers protesting against sweeping changes to inheritance tax.  From April, farms worth over 1.2 million dollars might be subject to a 20% tax, when they are passed on to beneficiaries.  Our correspondent Ray Adisson speaks to one furious farmer who thinks the future of his industry is at stake.    #farming #uk #taxes

00:00The next generation, you know how it is in the country, no one wants to work any youngsters.

00:04They certainly don't want to come out on the farm seven days a week, up to their eyeballs

00:07and mess and muck, all winds and weathers, when they can get an easy job nine to five

00:12in town. We can't get any better work on the farms as it is. With this, it's just going

00:16to finish it. It's just going to finish the whole countryside. It's all going to transform

00:19the countryside into an urban leisure ground. All the farms around us are going into hunting

00:24and shooting. All the youngsters like to go on out for a day with them, getting £50 a

00:30day cash and then getting all their drinks and food down the pub. They don't want to

00:34come out on the farms anymore. That's what we're up against. All the wealthy business

00:40people coming down in the country just for leisure nowadays and they don't want the food

00:44production. What happens if there's a war and they haven't got the food production?

00:48And they haven't got the expertise of the people anymore to make the food.
