Paris exhibition examines green digital transformation and AI

Green digital transformation and AI are some of the themes of a two-day exhibition in Paris, organized by Huawei Connect. The idea is to share information and showcase new digital breakthroughs.   CGTN’s Iolo ap Dafydd reports.

00:00Wherever and whenever, we're all contributing to a digital transformation that's sweeping across the world.

00:07At Huawei's event in Paris, there are glimpses of the future in retail, finance, transportation.

00:13A digital transformation that's also heralded as being green and sustainable.

00:19Some of these technologies have already been deployed in the market.

00:25I hope we can accelerate this process, especially for the AI.

00:31I think this process, this AI capability for the robot or some retail intelligent solutions need a process.

00:41And this process needs also the effort from Huawei.

00:45People seem to be enthralled with scrolling, reading, listening, talking, texting, or messaging on the go.

00:54Eye-catching new technology is being promoted and evaluated.

00:59In this exhibition, there are ideas of how maybe we will work, travel, and shop in the future.

01:05How we'll connect, download, and store data faster than before.

01:10And of course, understanding new developments.

01:14Such as the social and ecological impacts of evolving new technologies, like artificial intelligence.

01:21Issues discussed at the Paris Peace Forum.

01:24We don't think about the environmental impact of new technologies, especially in artificial intelligence, enough.

01:32And the amount of energy necessary.

01:37The impacts on the land use, for instance, of what is our impact on the environment.

01:45Security is another concern.

01:47US officials have decided that equipment from Chinese suppliers can pose a threat.

01:52And are removing it from American networks.

01:54Huawei argues its equipment can't be used for spying.

01:58Artificial intelligence also needs international cooperation.

02:03There was a state visit of President Xi back in May.

02:07And there was a joint declaration on AI.

02:10And so, of course, China is invited to the AI Action Summit.

02:14China was invited to Bletchley Park as well.

02:17So we're not only continuing with that, but continuing with the French tradition of being as inclusive as possible for the summit.

02:26Concerns around evolving technologies are being discussed with more urgency.

02:30How inclusive are they?

02:32And how to regulate are of concern for some, especially in regards to artificial intelligence.

02:38It's a real disaster if the risks of cyber marry to the risks of AI in some way.

02:47Simply because for now, AI is a data-intensive intelligence.

02:54So that means you need a larger scale data.

02:58And now the data is all from the web.

03:01All the risks, all the biases from the human society has been giving inputs to all the AI models.

03:10Communicating new opportunities is the bread and butter of exhibitions like this.

03:14And it's probably equally important for all of us who's using and adapting to newer technologies.

03:20To understand how they work and impact our lives.
