00:00Hello and welcome to One India. I am Divya S. Sharma.
00:03Today, we bring to you a story of transformation and ambition on India's western coast.
00:12With India's maritime trade poised to expand significantly, a revolutionary project has
00:17emerged to spearhead this growth, the Vidhawan Port in Maharashtra. This visionary project aims
00:24to reshape the economic landscape of Maharashtra, boost India's trade capabilities,
00:30and place the country among global maritime leaders.
00:36India's coastline has always held tremendous potential. However, until now, much of it has
00:42remained underutilized, limited by infrastructure and the lack of ports that can handle ultra-large
00:48vessels. This is where Vidhawan Port comes in. Set along Maharashtra's Arabian coast near Dahanu,
00:56Vidhawan Port is projected to become India's largest and most advanced port upon completion.
01:02With an estimated handling capacity of over 23 million 20-foot-equivalent units or TEUs,
01:09this project is a massive leap forward for India's maritime infrastructure.
01:14At a cost of approximately Rs. 76,220 crores, Vidhawan Port is poised to not only handle
01:22India's increasing trade volumes, but also reduce the country's dependence on costly
01:28transshipment hubs in neighboring countries. Ultra-large ships will now be able to dock
01:34directly on Indian shores, a benefit that will enhance export efficiency
01:39and reduce logistics costs for Indian businesses.
01:45The Vidhawan Port project is driven by political vision and determination of Maharashtra's
01:52Mahayati government. Under the leadership of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis
01:56and the Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, this project has gained critical momentum. This
02:01duo has emphasized their commitment to transform Maharashtra's infrastructure,
02:06particularly in Western Maharashtra, to unleash new economic opportunities.
02:10One of the key achievements of this initiative is the creation of the Vidhawan Port Project
02:15Limited, a special purpose vehicle that represents a unique collaboration
02:20between the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority and the Maharashtra Maritime Port. This partnership
02:26marks the first instance of union and state governments jointly developing a greenfield port,
02:32underscoring the Mahayati government's commitment to driving progress and innovation in Maharashtra.
02:41What makes the Vidhawan Port truly revolutionary is its strategic location. Just 12 kilometers
02:48from the dedicated rail freight corridor and 22 kilometers from the Mumbai-Vadodara Expressway,
02:55Vidhawan has exceptional connectivity to the industrial hubs across Maharashtra,
02:59Gujarat and Northern India. This means faster transit times, lower logistic costs,
03:06and better integration with the national supply chain, all critical factors that will attract
03:11trade and investment to Maharashtra. Another advantage of Vidhawan's design is the minimal
03:17onshore disruption. The port's main operational area is entirely reclaimed offshore,
03:23sparing Maharashtra's coastal lands from major land acquisition.
03:28The impact of Vidhawan Port will extend well beyond Maharashtra's shores.
03:32By serving a vast hinterland, including states like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and beyond,
03:37Vidhawan is positioned to become a crucial economic hub for India. The government envisions
03:43the port as a catalyst for growth in several industries, particularly in western Maharashtra.
03:48With new business opportunities in manufacturing, electronics, and specialty technologies,
03:53Vidhawan is expected to boost employment, attract investments, and position Maharashtra
03:59as a competitive player, both nationally and internationally.
04:04Under Fadnavis and Shinde's leadership, the Mahayati government is not only addressing
04:08current demands but also preparing Maharashtra to thrive in the future. Their visions align
04:15with India's long-term trade and infrastructure goals, empowering Maharashtra to emerge
04:20As part of the Sagar Mala program, Vidhawan Port has prioritized sustainability alongside
04:26economic growth. With Maharashtra's biodiversity in mind, the project incorporates eco-friendly
04:32practices in cargo handling, energy use, and minimized dredging. This balanced approach
04:38is a testament to the Maharashtra's economic potential.
04:43Vidhawan Port is set to connect India to major global trade routes like the International
04:48North-South Transportation Corridor and the India-Middle-East-Europe Economic Corridor.
04:54This alignment will reduce India's dependence on the Swiss Canal and create shorter, more
04:59economic corridors for India to travel between the two countries.
05:03The project will also provide a platform for India to expand its economic potential.
05:08Vidhawan Port is not just a port, it's a symbol of India's ambition and Mahayati
05:13government's dedication to uplifting Maharashtra's economy. By establishing a world-class port
05:18along India's western coast, the Farnabas-Shinde duo is transforming Maharashtra into a global
05:24maritime player, boosting trade and economic growth in the region.
