00:00What we want to achieve is a win-win for both state and also federal.
00:08This is what Deputy Prime Minister Fadila Yusuf said in response to the ongoing discussions
00:13between Putrajaya and Sarawak over the rights to oil and gas exploration off the state's
00:18coast.
00:19Under the Petroleum Development Act 1974, Petronas is given full ownership and exclusive
00:25authority over the country's entire onshore and offshore oil and gas resources.
00:31However, Fadila, a senior leader of Gabungan Parti Sarawak, said the state's right to offshore
00:37oil and gas is premised on the Oil and Mining Ordinance 1958.
00:42He added that the state claims the right to all resources found within its continental
00:47shelf.
00:49As far as Sarawak is concerned, it's about 100 miles from the border.
00:56The Sarawak State Assembly also passed the Distribution of Gas Ordinance 2016, which
01:01allows Sarawak's state-owned oil company Petros to take over Petronas' role as the
01:06state's gas aggregator.
01:07As far as onshore, it will be given to the state of Sarawak.
01:12Offshore will still be Petronas.
01:14For the new exploration, then both parties will discuss.
