00:00
So update, this is our update on our monitor, Typhoon Leon.
00:06
This is our latest satellite image.
00:08
So this is Leon earlier, earlier at 4 in the afternoon,
00:12
at a distance of 505 kilometers,
00:14
east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.
00:16
This is carrying a strong wind of 150 kilometers per hour,
00:20
close to the center, and a gust of 185 kilometers per hour.
00:25
It's moving in the direction of Canluran,
00:27
north of Canluran, at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour.
00:30
And we can see that mostly,
00:32
Leon is affected by those in the area of Northern Luzon,
00:37
as well as in the eastern part of Luzon,
00:40
but his trough or extension is possible to reach the Visayas area.
00:45
That's why we always monitor the upcoming updates of the forecast.
00:49
Let's take a look at Leon's track.
00:53
So this yellow area, yellow-orange area,
00:56
these are the strong winds, at least 39 kilometers per hour.
01:00
And this red area, these are also strong winds,
01:04
at least 89 kilometers per hour.
01:07
And then, we can see this enclosed area.
01:11
This does not indicate the magnitude of the typhoon,
01:13
but this area is where the center of the typhoon is possible to reach,
01:18
if it has a shift to the west,
01:20
so it's possible to reach.
01:22
So we can see, although there is a distance,
01:25
at least in the landmass of the Philippines,
01:27
but some parts of the extreme northern Luzon are within the area of probability,
01:32
that's why the landfall scenario around Batanes area was not ruled out.
01:36
So we can also see on the track,
01:38
it's possible for this to go in the northwest direction
01:42
before the landfall on the eastern coast of Taiwan.
01:47
So we can also see that around Thursday,
01:50
Leon is the closest to Batanes area.
01:54
And then, as we mentioned earlier,
01:57
the landfall scenario to Batanes was not ruled out
02:00
because it's within the area of probability.
02:04
We also expect that Leon will continue to intensify
02:09
while it's in the sea, the east of the Philippine Sea.
02:14
And then, likely, while it's also close to Batanes,
02:18
we don't rule it out,
02:19
or it's possible to go to the super typhoon category.
02:23
So we expect that it's possible for it to go out
02:25
in our Philippine area of responsibility,
02:28
Thursday evening or Friday early morning.
02:31
So we will continue to wait for updates
02:34
if we will have possible landfall events.
02:42
So because of this,
02:44
Tropical Cyclone Wind
02:46
Signal No. 2
02:47
Batanes, Babuyan Islands,
02:49
Mainland Cagayan,
02:50
Northern and Eastern portion of Isabela,
02:52
Apayau,
02:53
Northern portion of Calinga,
02:55
Northern portion of Abra,
02:57
and Ilocos Norte.
02:59
Signal No. 1
03:00
Isabela, Tirino,
03:03
Calinga, Mountain Province,
03:07
Benguet, Abra,
03:11
Ilocos Sur,
03:12
Baila Union,
03:13
Eastern portion of Nueva Ecija,
03:16
Aurora,
03:18
Northern and Eastern portion of Quezon,
03:20
including Polilio Islands,
03:22
Camarines Norte,
03:23
Camarines Sur,
03:24
Catanduanes,
03:25
Albay,
03:26
Northern portion of Sorsogon.
03:29
So we are mentioning that the highest possible
03:32
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal
03:34
that we can increase
03:35
during the passage of Leon
03:37
can be Signal No. 3 or 4.
03:39
But we showed earlier that
03:41
it is possible for Leon to be a Super Typhoon category
03:44
so it is not ruled out
03:46
if we will increase Signal No. 5.
03:50
We also issued a Heavy Rainfall Warning
03:53
or we issued a Weather Advisory
03:55
earlier at 5 p.m.
03:57
This afternoon until tomorrow afternoon,
04:00
we expect intense to torrential rains
04:02
more than 200 mm in Batanes and Cagayan
04:05
including Babuyan Islands.
04:07
Heavy to intense 100 to 200 mm of rains
04:10
in Ilocos Norte,
04:11
Apayau,
04:12
Isabela,
04:13
Occidental,
04:14
Mindoro,
04:15
and Antique
04:16
while moderate to heavy rains
04:17
now until tomorrow afternoon
04:18
in Ilocos Sur,
04:19
Abra,
04:20
Calinga,
04:21
Calamian Islands,
04:22
Romblon,
04:23
Negros Occidental,
04:24
and Aklan.
04:25
Then by tomorrow afternoon
04:27
until Thursday afternoon,
04:28
intense to torrential rains
04:30
in Batanes,
04:31
Cagayan,
04:32
Babuyan Islands,
04:33
and Occidental Mindoro.
04:35
Heavy to intense rains
04:36
in Ilocos Norte,
04:37
Ilocos Sur,
04:38
Apayau,
04:39
Isabela,
04:40
Calamian Islands,
04:41
and Antique
04:42
while moderate to heavy rains
04:43
in Abra,
04:44
Bataan,
04:45
Bulacan,
04:46
Lisal,
04:47
Laguna,
04:48
Cavite,
04:49
Batangas,
04:50
Romblon,
04:51
and Aklan.
04:52
Thursday afternoon to Friday afternoon,
04:53
intense to torrential rains
04:54
in Batanes and Babuyan Islands
04:55
while heavy to intense rains
04:57
in Mainland Cagayan,
04:58
Calamian Islands,
04:59
and Occidental Mindoro.
05:01
Moderate to heavy rains
05:02
in Ilocos Norte,
05:03
Zambales,
05:04
Bataan,
05:05
Cavite,
05:06
Batangas,
05:07
Romblon,
05:08
and Antique.
05:09
We are also expecting
05:10
strong winds.
05:13
Today,
05:14
in Bataan,
05:15
Metro Manila,
05:16
Calabarzon,
05:17
Mimaropa,
05:18
Bicol Region,
05:19
Visayas,
05:20
Dinagat Islands,
05:21
Surigao del Norte,
05:22
and Camiguin.
05:23
Tomorrow,
05:24
in Bataan,
05:25
Metro Manila,
05:26
Calabarzon,
05:27

05:31
And on Thursday,
05:32
in Aurora,
05:33
Camiguin,
05:34
Bicol Region,
05:35
and Dinagat Islands.
05:36
We have also issued
05:37
a gale warning.
05:38
And as of 5 p.m.,
05:39
we have issued a gale warning
05:40
in Batanes,
05:41
in Cagayan,
05:42
along with
05:43
Babuyan Islands,
05:44
Isabela,
05:45

05:46
and Aurora.
05:47
In Quezon,
05:48
along with
05:49
Aponillo Island,
05:50
Eastern Coast,
05:51
Camarines Norte,
05:52
and Catanduanes.
05:53
So,
05:54
if possible,
05:55
let's not travel
05:56
to those areas
05:57
because it will be
05:58
dangerous
05:59
to the ocean.
06:00
We also issued
06:01
a gale warning
06:02
at 2 p.m.
06:03
where we have
06:04
a storm surge warning
06:05
in Batanes
06:06
and Cagayan area.
06:07
So,
06:08
our advice
06:09
to the communities
06:10
living in
06:11
low-lying coastal
06:12
communities
06:13
is to stay
06:14
away from
06:15
the coast
06:16
or beach,
06:17
cancel all
06:18
marine activities,
06:19
and always

update
06:21
to the
06:22
advisory
06:23
that will be
06:24
issued
06:25
by Pag-asa.
