00:00Every day at 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., Thais across the country will stop and honor the national

00:11flag.

00:12This tradition, though a staple now, it only started 82 years ago in 1942, despite that

00:18the tricolor flag that we know nowadays has been around for a century.

00:23On September 14, 1942, Thais stood to honor the flag for the very first time, following

00:29the government's encouragement led by the Prime Minister Phil-Michel Black, Phritbun

00:34Songkhram.

00:35The anthem we know today was born in 1939, shortly after the country changed its name

00:40from Siam to Thailand.

00:42The relics penned by the colonel Luangsara Nuprapan were chosen to reflect the nation's

00:47identity.

00:48Today, this small act of respect unites Thais across generations and even species.
