The Faceless Men are a secretive order of assassins, but their origins may reveal a deeper connection to Valyria. The first Faceless Man supposedly granted mercy to a slave working in the mines of Old Valyria. Some fans theorize that the Faceless Men were born out of resistance to the brutal Valyrian empire and that their ultimate goal is to undo everything Valyria built—including dragons. This could explain their interest in Arya Stark, whose journey intersects with the fall of Westeros’s old powers. The fact that the Faceless Men sought a dragon egg in Braavos suggests they may still fear or desire to control dragon magic. Could their endgame be to extinguish dragons and magic for good? If so, the Faceless Men might be playing a far larger role in the world’s fate than we realize.
