03:03Good evening Trinidad and Tobago and viewers across the globe. I'm Mark Besant and this
03:18is Beyond the Tape. We've certainly had a busy 24 hours and quite sadly there was an
03:26incident early this morning involving a woman police constable. Here you see images of the
03:33area, it's on Hydraulic Road in Kearney. She was returning from a gig, she's attached to
03:38the police band and she came back from New Jersey this morning and was driving along
03:44this road towards her house with a female friend who apparently had picked her up but
03:50she ended up driving from the airport to her compound here at Hydraulic Road, not far
03:56away of course from the airport. And of course quite sadly a vehicle apparently followed
04:03her and while she was, when she had already reversed into the yard, gunman came out of
04:10a dark coloured SUV couple minutes or couple moments later and ran into that particular
04:18yard there, attempting to open the driver's door where a Miss Kiana Mahabia was sitting
04:25in and when they were unsuccessful they apparently shot her several times and then they made
04:32good their escape. So that is something we are going to be monitoring and looking at
04:37obviously over the course of the program. And then there's also, there was a fire at
04:42Labrae Sports Club, a rather iconic building sometime this morning. We're not setting up
04:49the extent of damage but it seems pretty serious based on what we would be seeing here captured
04:56by somebody's phone footage early this morning. We're going to be continuing the discussion
05:03of course about dealing with this crime situation and the measures that the police are taking
05:11to tackle this violent crime in the country, which is an ongoing discussion and of course
05:17it's important that you, the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago, be part of that discussion, be
05:22part of that solution. And of course today with us is the founder and manager of the
05:28St. James Youth Club, Corporal Derek Shabody. Welcome sir.
05:33Thank you very much and always a pleasure to be in your presence, always an honour and
05:37thank you for having us.
05:40I know you came here with a very heavy heart because we spoke just before the program about
05:45this incident involving a young woman police constable and certainly when it comes to crime
05:54there's no disparity as to who they target, whether it be a public figure, a police officer,
06:02a normal citizen.
06:04Yes, but it comes home when you hear one of your own, you know WPC Marbelle, as you said
06:10she was in New Jersey doing what she loved the most, playing music with some of her female
06:15colleagues that's come out of Trinidad because it's a place of home. You know, you're looking
06:20to go home and you're looking to just relax and take it down and I don't want to call
06:25them gunmen again, you know, but these two demons, evil crime, you know once upon a time
06:31you could say crime, there's an unemployment situation and it's crime, there's a problem
06:35of single-parentness and it's crime, there's a problem of love at home but there is a group
06:41of people that just share evil, you follow? It has nothing to do with unemployment, it
06:48has nothing to do with single-parentness, it has nothing to do with fatherless, young
06:52men serving the devil now. They come out to make a hell, they come out to make sure your
06:57life is hell. What these two women, did these women pose any threat? What is the reason
07:04for firing shots and evil and therefore, you know, my heart really goes out because the
07:09Pudiz band has been very good to us. The Pudiz band play good music all over the world, you
07:14know, they are one of the most, and you can know that the Pudiz band is a family. I spoke
07:20to the band leader, Mr. Gerrard, Mr. Gerrard today and Mr. Gerrard, you're hearing his
07:27voice, you know, one of his own, where she is in terms of, it's a sad day and we really
07:35want to pray and trust God that her life, you know, is saved and he was a beautiful
07:40human being, you know, and for all those who suffer the hands of these demons, we fight
07:46this one. This is a fight that we must win. This is not a fight that we need to retreat
07:50and we need to go back. It's a fight that we must take to them. These criminals must
07:55have sleepless nights, like at 2 o'clock in the morning, 2.30 in the morning you're following
08:00these people. These people, they are not patriotic. They don't love Trinidad. They don't love
08:06this country. They don't love nobody. They hate us and they serve a different God and
08:11certainly it's not the God that we serve.
08:13And I certainly believe that that sentiment you have expressed, of course, it's not only
08:20the duty of the police out there, but also citizens of Trinidad and Tobago, you also
08:25have a part to play in assisting the police and trying to suppress these criminal elements
08:32in any way possible. And I know that, you know, we're sending prayers to her and her
08:40family and we're hoping that she has a speedy recovery because I know that she has been
08:47placed at the ICU and speaking to the president of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service
08:54Social Welfare Association, Inspector Dixon, earlier today, he did say that he attempted
09:01to see the young constable, but you know, he got an update on his family and one of
09:08the bullets was apparently lodged in her brain and she was moved to ICU. So the doctors are
09:15saying that they have to wait for the brain, it's swollen before they can, you know, make
09:20any further pronouncement. And I believe that there was also a bullet lodged in her stomach
09:25and one was also in her arm. I mean, this is at point blank range. Yes. And it's certainly,
09:33you know, it's certainly disheartening that her companion, her female friend would also
09:38witness this and just sitting next to her. Yes. It was very traumatized because in the
09:45video there, the ending of it, you would have seen that after the gunman left the area,
09:52her friend jumped into the driver's seat and drove her to the nearest medical facility
09:58and then following which they would have carried her, transported her to the Eric Williams
10:03Medical Sciences Complex. But we're going to be talking a little bit more about this
10:08and of course, I know a lot of you callers are going to be calling in about this situation
10:12as well, but we want to go to our headlines now.
10:52So those are some of the headlines making the Trinidad Express newspaper within the
11:01last 24 hours. And we want to go back to that video we played earlier involving the shooting
11:08incident with WPC Keanu Mahabir. And speaking with investigators, of course, Corporal Shabody,
11:15you see the vehicle here driving along hydraulic road. Yes. And she's about to turn, of course,
11:24as the electronic gate opens, she's going to reverse into that spot. And then quickly
11:29here in a matter of seconds, you see a black colored SUV should be emerging in your frame
11:36anytime I'd say now. Yeah, give or take. So they were following her from the airport.
11:44You see one of the assailants get out of the vehicle prior to getting to the front
11:49of the entrance. He runs in. A second assailant, then the car stops again and a second assailant
11:58comes out. Yes. And this is what we hear after a couple of minutes. Second, sorry.
12:16So you see, gunshots go off. There is a song, perhaps by her friend. Panic, yes, that's
12:23right. These men are making their escape. And we want to encourage anybody with information
12:34about this particular incident to call 800-TIPS or contact the police at 555-999-991 or call
12:44any police station, preferably Chagones police station or Kearney police station. I'm sure
12:51Superintendent Gyan or the Inspector for Crime, I believe it's Mr. Petty, would be more than
12:57willing to assist you guys in terms of gathering information. And I know the investigators
13:03saying that it's still very fluid, of course. They're looking at a number of theories, of
13:08course, possible carjacking, possible robbery. And we have seen time and time again, a trend
13:15where people leave the airport and are followed to their homes and are accosted and robbed
13:20and beaten and so on. Yeah. And that's why it's so important that we need to provide people
13:25with tips. We don't let them know you're leaving the airport, you're proceeding, double check,
13:30see if this car is, you know, do not go straight to your home, you know, make a lap, go on your
13:36WhatsApp chat, inform people, neighbors in the area that you're two minutes away, letting people
13:41come out. You see, crime is about opportunity. And the 2.30 in the morning, everybody's sleeping,
13:48people looking to wake up 4, 5, you know, to go to school, to go to work. And these men,
13:53they know fully well that the area, everybody is in an area that is well known for liming and
13:59a bar to the corner. So it is understood that these men and property rights take all the area.
14:04Further than that, if it is that we do not go back to the neighborhood watch groups and using
14:10technology, then we run the risk of these things. We have very, very unfortunate, you know, and
14:17there is two women, two women, I mean, I see one of them come out of the car, fine. What is the
14:22reason for the gunshots? You know, I go back again, there is a particular type of criminal
14:29in this country. You cannot speak to them anymore. There's no more lecturing, there's no more
14:33counseling. There is no more discussions with them. You gotta take the heat to them, put heat on them.
14:40Let them know that this country is not for sale. The woman police, who would, you know, I'm hearing
14:47that she loves drums, she plays percussion. You know, she will come over so often and say,
14:51Officer, I like the kind of work you're doing. Anytime you're ready, I would like to come down
14:55and teach your children. I'm a nice woman. And to know now this woman is fighting for her life.
15:00We call on Trinidad and Tobago, all law-abiding citizens, you know, to make sure that these
15:06things continue. The fight must be on, and it must be a collective battle. It must be a battle
15:12where being a neighbor's keeper, you put on your light. If you're rich, come out the road. Times
15:18have changed. We cannot become complacent. You know, we have to revisit the way we speak, the
15:23way we talk, and we conduct our affairs in the community. It's very unfortunate. Most certainly.
15:29We want to agree with your sentiments, of course, and we want to listen to family members of WPC
15:36who spoke earlier today on social media, asking the country to cover her with prayer.
15:44Family, family, family, right now we are here at the Mount Hope General Hospital. I know many of
15:52you would have heard about Juana Mahabir, and we are asking all of us, asking everyone, let us join
15:59in prayer. The doctor said right now that she's stable. She is stable, and we are thankful for
16:06that. She is stable, and we are asking every single person who sees this video to begin to
16:12pray. Let us stand as a family. Let us stand in Christ, and let us pray for our sister in Jesus'
16:21name. We want you to cover the family in prayer, and also all the doctors that is working on her
16:28right now at this time, but she is stable. Yes, that's what I'll update. She is stable,
16:32all right, and we thank you for all the calls. We thank you for all the prayer. We know that you
16:36all are standing with us, and we are believing God for greatness on Juana's behalf. In Jesus' name,
16:42we love you all. The sentiments of the family are very strong, of course, and asking for the
16:50community and, of course, the country to pray for her, and I know that comedian Nikki Crosby apparently
16:56met WPC Mahabir in the United States at a function at Sunshine Awards in Newark,
17:04New Jersey on Saturday night, and was really disheartened that she met her. She spoke about
17:10how talented she was and how they loved that exchange and the fire, and she wanted to go back
17:17home and sleep in her own bed. She didn't reach there, but she's alive, thank God, and we are
17:23hoping for the best, so Nikki obviously is quite heartbroken by this incident, of course,
17:29and by extension, many people across Trinidad and Tobago. A young woman, a young police constable
17:36who has a passion for music and represents the band, the police band. Yes, and I want to extend
17:43that prayer to even ensuring that the police officers get intelligence to bring these culprits
17:51to justice. These evil men who had nothing to do, who couldn't get up and go and look for a job,
17:57who couldn't come out and show they have a good labor, you know, they choose to go and take
18:02somebody's car and take the life of this officer. They have no place in this country, and our prayers
18:09must also go to ensuring that law-abiding citizens and people who have the will, the testicle
18:16fortitude, they say, officer, I know the individual, I have information individual, because this is how
18:22you fight crime, you know, and they say, I know that people want to know that they are protected
18:26when they give information, there's confidentiality, and Crime Stoppers is there, you have so much in
18:32different forums now that you can call it out, leaving who you are, that kind of stuff.
18:37Make use of what has been provided so that we will make these people an example,
18:43and any or anybody else, and not just this officer, because we can go the whole week and
18:49talk about the unfortunate killings of law-abiding citizens. They can't sleep on a nightclub, and these
18:55criminal elements sleeping normal, waking up normal, and say, listen to me, the fight is on.
19:03We said we're gonna be continuing this discussion, but we'll have much more after this break. Stay with us.

22:04Welcome back to Beyond Your Tape.
22:05I'm your host, Marc Bessant, of course, joined today by the manager of the St. James Youth
22:09Police Club, Corporal Shabody.
22:12And of course, very passionate about, you know, the incident that occurred involving WPC
22:19Mojave.
22:20And we do want to, I know that you are also heavily involved with the youth, and we did
22:26have an actual incident this morning near the San Juan Secondary School, a shooting incident.
22:35Apparently, this footage was taken by Mr. Brandon Bedmore from TV6 First.
22:39And essentially, what I was made to understand, somebody was holding a firearm and apparently
22:48shot at somebody in this vicinity of the school there.
22:52But the person that they shot at managed to evade the gunman and ran into some nearby
23:00bushes there.
23:00Of course, you know, this whole thing about, you know, recently we had an incident at Duncan
23:05Street, near the Southeast Quarter Street Secondary School, where three men were shot
23:10and injured.
23:11But the heavy gunfire traumatized the school and teachers and students, and they had to
23:17overschool very early that morning at 10.30 or thereabout.
23:20Yes.
23:21Codeless.
23:23No care for life.
23:24Do you have respect for institutions where children can go and learn and educated?
23:31That is who we're dealing with right now.
23:33You know, once upon a time, you're passing from the school, you know fully well children
23:37are safe.
23:38Where are we safe anymore?
23:40You know, so that you have to step up your game.
23:43You have to put cameras, technology, because police can be everywhere.
23:48You know, police officers already undertaking that.
23:51These schools that are placed in high-risk communities, that status patrols are required.
23:57You know, emergency principals having immediate contact to call the police immediately to
24:03get immediate response.
24:04You have to have discussions now with the schools.
24:08Students who go into that school, how to behave, how to alert, how to raise something with
24:11the teacher very early, because children sometimes knows what's going on.
24:15So the children have to buy into the question of crime fighting.
24:18They must know that the school I'm going to is a safe one because I'm part of a proactive
24:23approach to crime prevention.
24:25This is my school, and therefore I want a safe school.
24:28You follow?
24:29And that is the kind of discussions we need to have.
24:32And we need to send a message as well that in every high-risk school, we understand that
24:39the risk becomes more.
24:41As a result of that, we pay more attention in terms of our children.
24:45Children leave home to go and study, to become doctors, lawyers, media personnel,
24:51masonry carpenters.
24:53They should have no right looking over their back, worrying that a gunfight is taking place
24:59and the principal giving instructions, take the desk, take the floor.
25:03That is madness.
25:05To believe you're our first caller, did I call you good evening?
25:08Yes, this is the department.
25:10I was not seen here.
25:12When police get shot, nobody is seen.
25:15When a partner gets shot, everybody is seen.
25:18And that's big or small.
25:19What is going on here in this country?
25:21People need to be very, very intelligent when they comment on the police.
25:29Gun-related offences should not be allowed and should be 2,500 years in prison for any
25:39gun-related offence.
25:41And start hanging people and you'll see all them bandits and then go back in the streets.
25:46Have a blessed one.
25:48Well said.
25:49Swift justice.
25:51Swift justice.
25:52Most definitely.
25:53Yeah, you can't be holding a gun if you have no value for your life.
26:00I don't think you have value for mine.
26:01And the fact that you have gun, you have intent.
26:04So that we have to understand and appreciate that somebody who doesn't have value understand
26:10that it is applauded when they take your life.
26:13It is no rank.
26:13There's no status.
26:15And therefore, we must say no to that kind of life.
26:17We must frog on it.
26:18Agreed.
26:19We do have another caller on the line.
26:20Caller, good evening.
26:24Caller, good evening.
26:25Hello.
26:26Hello, good night.
26:27Good evening.
26:27Yes.
26:28Hi, good evening.
26:29Good evening.
26:30To you, the host, Mr. Bassan, and also your guest, Officer Shabadi, I want to make a brief
26:35contribution.
26:36When I was thinking about the contribution of Officer Shabadi, he touched on a little
26:41point I was going to raise.
26:44A lot could be said, and I do a lot of watching the show for quite some time now.
26:49When we go to school, they train us to think, to use your mind, to just think, to develop
26:59your mind and your perception and stuff.
27:02To be quite frank, straight to the point, honestly, not just you, Officer Shabadi, it's
27:08not the first or second or third time I would have watched you on this show and taken inspiration
27:13and good, positive energy.
27:15And I would have also seen other officers like Corporal Ali and I think it's ASP Pitt,
27:22long story short.
27:23If I had to be honest about what I'm seeing about crime in Trinidad today over these past
27:29years since I've been a child, it's very, very hard to believe that, of course I have
27:35limited knowledge, but it's very hard to believe that a genuine mindset and approach is being
27:40applied to resolve and neutralize crime.
27:44And it just has been the reoccurring outcome for years.
27:51I don't make a contribution, but I'll admit it.
27:55Well said.
27:55You see, when you have a contribution, it has to be applauded.
27:58And you have to give people a platform to participate.
28:01You cannot control and dominate.
28:04There are people who already have the solutions.
28:05There are people who want to participate in the process.
28:08They want to work alongside the police.
28:10And therefore, we must first be grateful and happy of the few and encourage others to
28:16come on board.
28:17And therefore, the balancing of information is paramount.
28:21You can't have only one side of crime, crime, crime.
28:25There are good work going on.
28:26There are excellent programs and initiatives taking place with the police working in concert
28:31with the public.
28:32And therefore, it must make news.
28:34It must make the semicolon.
28:35We must bombard them that they are positive, law-abiding citizens that are doing excellent
28:41work in concert with the police, in spite of what people may want to say.
28:45You follow?
28:45There are some people that love negative news.
28:48Unfortunately, I prefer to live a balanced life.
28:52There's both negative and positive.
28:54And we are grateful that even when the media will be able to say, let's promote some of
28:59the good work the police is doing.
29:01And that should be commended.
29:02And we want to foster that.
29:04You see, what you think is what you say.
29:06And what you say is what you.
29:08And therefore, our thinking must be different.
29:10And that's why we need to promote that which is positive.
29:16Food for thought there.
29:17We're going to take a short break and we'll be back.

31:38Caribbean Medical TV on this station.
31:53Welcome back to Beyond the Tape.
31:54I'm your host, Mark Bassad.
31:56Joined today by Corporal Chabuddy of the St. James Police Youth Club.
32:01We want to encourage all callers to call at 623-1711 extensions 1992, 1993, and 1997.
32:11Yesterday, we showed you a video.
32:13We weren't quite certain where it might have occurred.
32:16It involved a hit and run accident.
32:19What we later learned, based on the information provided to us, was that this took place in
32:25Cedrus.
32:26An elderly woman crossing the street here and then she is struck by a vehicle.
32:39So the vehicle leaves, of course, and we're asking anybody with information, of course,
32:44to call 800-TIPS or 555-999 or 991 or even contact the Cedrus Police Station.
32:53We can say at least that she is alive and we are hopeful that she recovers
32:59and that that driver in question is brought to justice.
33:04Lawlessness.
33:06Lawlessness.
33:07We see it every day on the road.
33:09We see how they take the shoulder.
33:10They are disrespectful.
33:12You know, they have no care for rules.
33:15They have no care for sign.
33:17Sometimes you're in the right and you have to apologize to them because they might come
33:20out of the car.
33:21They are so angry.
33:23You know, it is a whole case of people and, you know, the mental faculty in terms of their
33:30attitude.
33:32Every morning you see it.
33:34And if it is, thank God for technology that would have picked up the vehicle and would
33:40have traced who is the owner of the vehicle.
33:41And that's why we need to utilize and maximize our technology.
33:44Look at that.
33:45You're a bumsy woman.
33:46You're probably by error.
33:47You're going too fast.
33:48Come on, ma'am.
33:48You're okay.
33:49Take her to the hospital.
33:51You know, they come back to being civilized, to being cared.
33:56And that's lawlessness too.
33:58So it's a lawless state, even on the road.
34:01And when you have these kind of drivers, hustlers, men who care, you know, they use them because
34:07a weapon is very unfortunate.
34:09Sometimes I am frightened, even as an officer.
34:13Frightened, you know, you're wrong.
34:16You know, I have to be mindful.
34:17I have to be tactful.
34:18I probably call the closest station and say, hey, I just saw an offense committed.
34:23So I'd have reinforcements.
34:24You know, you have to be very tactful now.
34:27And it reminded me, of course, of that incident that unfortunately took the life of Mr. Azad
34:32Khan a couple of days ago, where the person was robbed and the bandit got away on a motor,
34:39on a bicycle, sorry.
34:41And this guy decided to run down this bandit, thinking that the person that he saw on the
34:46bicycle was, in fact, the bandit.
34:48Very unfortunate.
34:49Struck and killed Mr. Khan, who, of course, was riding a bicycle in the darkness as well.
34:53Really breakneck speed.
34:55Yes.
34:55And we just, of course, want to go to another video that is related to our nation's roadways
35:04involving a police officer issuing a ticket to a female motorist who had this to say.
35:17Watch, watch.
35:23Wow.
35:24So I know that a number of police officers, and Mr. Shabaji, you can correct me if I'm
35:30wrong, have been telling me over a period of time that there is a shortage of bulletproof
35:36vests and the vests that some of them are actually now wearing is really worn and there's
35:41need for replacement.
35:43Well, the association is on record and the association is the best group that represents
35:49the police.
35:49We'll be able to tell you more in terms of their findings.
35:52But I'm happy for that officer who was very reserved, kept his cool, calm, collective.
35:57This is how you conduct your affairs.
35:59You know, you talk how much you want, you count how much you want.
36:01I'm doing the business as a police officer, you know, and again, that's why we employ
36:07police officers.
36:07So when they come around, it is helpful.
36:10It will show that, listen, look what is really going on.
36:13And it is a step in the right direction.
36:15And we have that.
36:17We have, when police officers come to do the job, the public and the community is in uproar.
36:23But when the gunman come, everybody quiet.
36:26So it is unfortunate, but I just want to applaud the officer.
36:29And I probably would like to use that tip for all of the officers to see how you should
36:34conduct yourself.
36:36Any, you know, any instance of insults and dropping words and your uniform and all that.
36:41I'm an officer of the law, ma'am.
36:43You committed an offence.
36:44And therefore, I'm not issuing you a ticket.
36:46And that's it.
36:47You have an easy day, ma'am.
36:48And I know that in social media, there is now with your phone, it gives you a sense
36:52of empowerment.
36:53Oh, yes.
36:54And of course, on the flip side of that, it's also important that sometimes police might
36:58run afoul of the law in some measure.
37:00Yes.
37:00And arresting somebody or doing something and it's captured on the phone.
37:04So in the same wavelength that you would have congratulated the officer, it is the
37:08same way that the public has a duty.
37:11If a police officer steps out of line to show that.
37:14And of course, you know, we have a body for that.
37:17The Police Complaints Authority will then pick up that complaint and investigate it.
37:23You know, you have to mark it and promote it.
37:24That is done.
37:25You know, as people see police and there's so much going on with the criminal elements
37:30when police, you don't know who is who.
37:32You have to understand the times we're living in.
37:33And you have to give weight to members of the public, trying to make sure that this
37:37is really an officer, a legitimate officer, not a criminal element wearing uniform.
37:42So we live in some special times.
37:45Surely.
37:45And of course, we don't want to forget a kidnap victim, Suvish Ram Narain.
37:53Today is 10 days since he was taken from Rob's Bar in Kanupia by police officers or sorry,
38:02by men pretending to be police officers in tactical way.
38:07Right.
38:08And police are working assiduously, of course, in tandem with the family of Mr. Ram Narain.
38:14Where I'm sitting is listening.
38:16And they are praying for his safe release and hoping for the best in the coming hours.
38:20Hopefully that somebody out there with some type of information or those that
38:27have him in their possession would release this gentleman.
38:31Yeah, we really feel that some law-abiding citizen that would have information.
38:36This is unfair.
38:37This is unfortunate.
38:37This is that.
38:38This is what the man has a business.
38:40He's running a legitimate business.
38:42You know these men in polo shirt with police logo with gun and they have the Polish cross.
38:48These fellows feel like they're one step ahead.
38:50But it's all evil.
38:52And God have a special day for these men and them.
38:54We ask you, anybody have information where this man is, you know, give it, pass it on
38:59to the police.
38:59Call 555.
39:01Call 999.
39:01Call Crime Stoppers.
39:03Leave information.
39:04This one is a father.
39:05He's, you know, he has donated to the community.
39:08Yes, this is a good man.
39:09You know, he has done well with you club.
39:12Yes, I'm giving donations.
39:14And for you to come in is really unfortunate.
39:16And you can only appeal to the public and trust that somebody say, listen, I'm going
39:21to pass on some information.
39:22The police that would be helpful in terms of making an arrest.
39:26And of course, we also have officers of the anti-kidnapping unit who is also involved
39:33in trying to secure the safe return of Mr Ram Narain to his family.
39:38And we also hope that they can also assist with the other police officers in getting
39:44him safely to his family.
39:45Yes, very competent unit.
39:47We're going to take a short break and we'll be back after this.
39:49Stay with us.
39:56Hi, guys, I'm going to talk to you today about optimizing sleep.
40:06So the first thing is to make sure you have a set bedtime every night.
40:10The second is to switch your phones off an hour before bedtime.
40:14Ideally, don't charge them in the bedroom at all and have a charge point that's outside.
40:19Thirdly, you want to avoid stimulants like caffeine.
40:23So no coffee or tea, ideally after 2 p.m., because it can take as long as six to eight
40:28hours to metabolize out of your system.
40:30And then finally, when you wake in the morning, let in that sunshine and give the sun a high
40:35five because that switches off our sleepy time hormones and gets us ready for the day.
40:39Thanks for joining.

41:14your in-laws, other parents, sometimes random strangers?
41:18Seems like everybody has an opinion.
41:20How do you deal with that?
41:25Remember, parenting is a continuous learning process.
41:28Don't worry too much about what others think or see.
41:31Instead, take time to examine your interactions with your children and see what worked well
41:37and what you could do differently next time.
41:40Take time to examine without judgment and be open to learning from your experiences.
41:45At the end of the day, keep trying your best and share if you found this useful and like
41:50and follow our profile for more parenting tips.
41:54The letter of the day is X for examine.

42:55Today, I wish to remind you of Community Justice Clinic, a collaborative initiative endorsed
43:01by the Commission of Police and the Executive of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
43:05The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service Community Justice Clinic is a partnered initiative between
43:11the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and volunteer attorneys who provide confidential
43:16and free legal advice as it relates to private and civil matters, including matrimonial grievances,
43:22domestic violence, divorce, custody, access, maintenance, land, estate, and any non-criminal
43:29matters.
43:30This initiative commenced in October 2021 and has been consistently serving members
43:36of the public the last Saturday of every month between the hours of 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
43:42Thus far, we have been to over 75 communities and have served several organizations and
43:48continue to circle our Twin Island Republic, offering this service to the citizens of our
43:54country.
43:55Usually, on the last Saturday of every month, the Community Justice Clinic goes to two locations
44:02in Trinidad and Tobago.
44:04However, in commemoration of the third anniversary of the clinic, we are embarking upon Community
44:12Justice Clinic 5, where the initiative will be taken to five different locations in Trinidad.
44:18We will be at the Juan Rico Regional Complex, located at No. 20-22,
44:25Tiny Spring Street, Juan Rico, through James Police Youth Club, located at No. 5,
44:32Sierra Leone Road, Pitti Valley, Tortuga Community Center, located at Meyer Road, Tortuga,
44:43Arima Community Center, located at No. 3, Anglican Street, Arima, and Riverside Plaza,
44:51located at Lesson Street, Coleslip.
44:54No member of the public can attend any of the five locations.
45:00No registration is required.
45:06Approximately three years ago, I would have joined the CTPS Community Justice Clinic as
45:11I believe service to man is service to God.
45:14Through this initiative, I am able to use the knowledge given to me by God to assist
45:18those who are unable to access legal advice.
45:22Recently, we would have seen an increase of domestic violence cases throughout our country,
45:29so I encourage you or someone you may know to attend and get the free legal advice that
45:35you may need.
45:36I am proud to support the work of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service Community Justice
45:41Clinic.
45:42Our mission is to bridge a gap between the police and the community, ensuring that every
45:48voice is heard and every concern is addressed with care and respect.
45:53I want to encourage everyone to attend our Community Justice Clinic session and take
45:58advantage of this opportunity to have free legal advice and engage directly with us.
46:06These events are designed to empower you with knowledge and provide a platform for
46:12open dialogue and strengthen the bond within our community.
46:17Let's work together and build a safer and more united community where we can all thrive.
46:25It is a privilege to continue to work alongside such skillful and professional attorneys and
46:31officers, and we are happy to make ourselves available to assist you with whatever legal
46:36issues you may have.
46:37Because to every problem in life, there is a solution.
46:41I'm committed to being a member of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service Community Justice
46:47Clinic because it gives me an opportunity to contribute to the community by providing
46:53guidance on important legal matters.
46:55Come visit our clinic so that we can serve you.
47:02The Community Justice Clinic is celebrating three years this month, October.
47:09Corporal Chabadia, what has the response been like over the Saturdays that you all have
47:15put this on, and how beneficial has it been for the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago?
47:20Well, Mr. Bassan, you are one of the premier investigative journalists I've known.
47:26And I would like to encourage you to do an investigation of a different kind.
47:30You know, come down, and these people are very honored.
47:34They are talking about normal people from all different walks of life, free of charge,
47:40coming down to the center to get information on domestic violence, information on probably
47:46a domestic matter, you know, issue in terms of relationship, bullying.
47:52And you know what, I want to applaud, and if you allow me, Yateni is doing this pro
47:59bono, not assent.
48:01You know, they are doing it free.
48:03They are giving up.
48:05You know what it is to be an attorney at law?
48:07I tried to be once, but I didn't have the money, so I didn't.
48:09But you understand, after people would have spent so much to come and say, I would like
48:15to be of service, and they're giving it.
48:19And you know, people are so much misinformed that they must be encouraged to take this
48:23step, to come down.
48:25It is confidential, no registration.
48:27Nobody asking for an application form.
48:29They're not asking if you're a sun wash judge.
48:31I would like to meet a lawyer attorney today.
48:33And you sit down, and you have the ambience, you have the privacy, and you have a chat,
48:39and the interaction is good.
48:41And you know, when we had it the first time at our club, I can talk about my club, you
48:43know, people say, Officer, when next?
48:45You know, we were getting calls.
48:47When next?
48:49You know, they were happy, they were grateful for the information because of the misinformation
48:51out there.
48:53And I think that our attorneys need to be applauded.
48:55They need to be given a medal.
48:57We need more people like this.
48:59They're coming on board and doing pro bono work and offering their service to people
49:03who probably don't have the finances.
49:05A lady told me once, she said, Officer, I don't even have the starting funds to meet
49:11an attorney.
49:13I am so grateful that I was able to meet an attorney and chat and discuss a domestic matter,
49:19of course.
49:22And what I like about the attorneys is that there's no time.
49:26You know, they'll run them.
49:28They'll say, yeah, 15 minutes, 10 minutes.
49:30You go ahead and talk.
49:32You go ahead and chat.
49:34And they provide the information.
49:36And of course, there's some level of follow-up on the background.
49:38And the police service is proud of many initiatives.
49:40You see this one?
49:42This one, we have to tip our cap to the commissioner, the executive officers, and the divisional
49:50heads who run with it.
49:52Mr. Pierre, Ma'am Williams, and her team, you know, for really allowing legal fraternity
49:58to come on board.
50:00And probably if there are lawyers out there, probably would want to come on board.
50:04I'm sure you could meet with Mr. Pierre or call the commissioner.
50:08And we would love to have because more hands make work light, of course.
50:12So I would leave it up to you.
50:15I would ask you, you know, with the talent and the skill that you have, you know, to
50:21interview some persons.
50:23People really do enjoy it.
50:25No more and never with the crime, anti-bullying.
50:27People are vigilante.
50:29And we won't let them.
50:31That is not the way to go.
50:33There is a legal way.
50:35This is different course you can take.
50:37If you're not satisfied with the police, you can go privately and access.
50:39You know, the law has so many different options that people don't know.
50:43And I trust probably Beyond the Tape will be able to utilize an hour or two, you know,
50:51having one of the attorneys and share some of them.
50:55I'm probably a recipient too, some of the benefits.
50:57So I really want to salute the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
51:01I want to appeal to the public.
51:03Come out on Saturday, 8 to 1, Northern Division, Western Division, Southern Division,
51:11you know, we're going to call it later again, but from 8 to 1, come out in your numbers
51:17and you will have the benefit of getting quality information.
51:21And again, it will be remiss of me not to say thank you very much for the attorneys
51:27who, for the past three years, quietly, no fanfare, have been saying, when next?
51:33When can we go again?
51:35That is amazing.
51:37We're hopeful that there will be a good turnout on Saturday.
51:40But we do have to take a short break and we'll be back to talk about this more.
51:42Stay with us.
52:10Please tribute to all the characters from your favorite movies.

53:41Mary returns to her car and this is what happens.
53:53Mary decides to call when she's five minutes away to let her daughter know that she is close by.
53:59But Mary forgot one thing.
54:03Second ticket for the day. I don't know.
54:05I really don't know.
54:06Well, I tell you.
54:07After two tickets, Mary just isn't paying attention to her speed.
54:27Don't be like Mary.
54:29Obey the laws of the road.
54:31A message from the TTPS.
54:45Welcome back to Beyond the Tape. I'm your host Mark Bassan, of course, joined today by Corporal Shabody from the St. James Police Youth Club.
54:53We just wanted to take you back quickly to a video yesterday about a murder victim that was found along the old St. Joseph Road.
55:01We understand that he has been identified as Anthony Contrera.
55:05Apparently, in 2021, he was freed of a murder and had been kind of transforming his life and was working as a cleaner at a nearby establishment.
55:17And apparently, on the grounds that he might have created some enemies while he was in prison.
55:23It's a theory that police are working on.
55:26So, we're just going to quickly touch on the Community Justice Clinic again.
55:30And I think you also have something else you want to add.
55:32Yeah.
55:33So, I just want to let members of the public know.

56:15Ask for Inspector Perry.
56:17Or you can call me at 296-1218.
56:19It's the establishment of a station council.
56:21Where members of the public participate.
