00:09was fined 5,500 ringgit by a magistrate's court in Sungai Besar on Tuesday.
00:16Magistrate Siti Hajar Ali imposed the sentence on 42-year-old Elina Muhammad after she pleaded
00:21guilty to three charges, section 506 of the Penal Code for Criminal Intimidation, which
00:27carries a maximum penalty of seven years' imprisonment or a fine, or both, section 14
00:34of the Minor Offences Act, 1955, for indecent behaviour, which carries a fine not exceeding
00:41100 ringgit, and section 90 of the Police Act, 1967, for improper conduct, which provides
00:49for a fine not exceeding 5,000 ringgit or up to one year in jail, or both, upon conviction.
00:55The first two offences were committed at a petrol station in Panchak Alam at 7.50pm
01:01on October 17, while the third offence was committed at the Sawjana Uttama Police Station
01:07at 1.45am on October 19.
01:11During mitigation, Elina's lawyer Shahweera Abdul Halim appealed for a light sentence
01:16on grounds that his client is a housewife and a mother of five.
01:21He also claimed that the incident was due to a misunderstanding and that his client
01:26had been provoked by several men and a woman for not moving her car.
01:31Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohammad Noor Hakimi, Mohammad Rozadin, however, urged the court
01:37to hand down an appropriate sentence to serve as a lesson to the accused and the public
01:43to not repeat similar offences.
