How wine pioneer Torres succeeded in China

Spain’s King of Red Wine, Miguel Torres, says he is learning Mandarin in his 80s as he seeks to increase his family firm’s understanding of China. Torres first began selling to China in the 1980s.

00:00I'm Miguel Torres.

00:02I am the fourth generation of family

00:05that started in 1870 in the wine business.

00:08And I'm delighted to, you know, this interview

00:11so I can address to our friends in China.

00:13Maybe they get to know a little better our wines.

00:16If you are thinking of establishing in China

00:20or do business in China, I would recommend

00:23to study Chinese a little bit.

00:26At least, you know, maybe one year

00:29so that you can be not fluent,

00:30but you can say a few sentences.

00:32The Chinese love it.

00:34I had a speech made in Chinese last April in Shanghai

00:38and people really were enthusiastic.

00:41You know, it's a better way to sell your product.
