West Indies head coach Daren Sammy has expressed disappointment with the pitch for the final two T20 matches in Dambulla, which saw the Caribbean side losing the series 2-1 to hosts Sri Lanka.

Having said that, Sammy felt it was a good test for his side, since Sri Lanka will be co-hosting the next T20 World Cup in 2026.

00:00Despite losing the T20 series to home side Sri Lanka, West Indies head coach
00:05Darren Sammy lauded his players for the way they performed throughout the
00:08contest. After winning the opening game the men in Maroon were beaten 2-1 by the
00:12Sri Lankans. According to Sammy the conditions were tough for his side which
00:16was not up to full strength. Ideally yes our men did not respond well to the spin
00:22however with the mindset that we have in our team being a championship
00:29winning team we must be able to play in different conditions you know be letting
00:36bowlers be challenged and letting also our batters be challenged so for us to
00:43to see the last two games the nature in which the wicket was from what it was at
00:47the start I thought we actually won the contest because we were the away
00:54team and the conditions set before us we challenged them. While the Sri Lankan
01:00spinners were able to make the most of the home conditions Sammy felt it was
01:04not ideal for the development of cricketers especially fast bowlers
01:08having said that he saw it as a lesson moving forward with the 2026 World Cup
01:13taking place on the subcontinent. We go to Australia we go to England we go
01:18different places we find different conditions and we got to be able to
01:22adjust what we've done over the last year as a team improving from number
01:29number nine it was to number three in the world it's because we've been able
01:34to adjust and our batsmen has gotten better in rotation of strike and playing
01:40spin and we won't let this series here deter us from you know the goal you
01:47know the mission is still to be able to become a championship winning team and
01:51this year was a good a good tester for us. Sammy said had the series started off
01:56with a wicket taking serious turn as it did in the final two matches he would
02:00have had no issues what puzzled him was the fact that the Dambulla wicket was
02:04good for batting in the first game and then it became too spin friendly for the
02:08remaining matches. But when you come to a place and you you know the conditions
02:13tells you it is a 190 wicket and you restrict the home team on that condition
02:20for 180 and you chase it down yes they came back in the game and you chase it
02:24down by batting them out of the power play and you turn up two days later
02:31no no sunshine pitch covered but you see a totally different wicket that's what
02:38I'm talking about. The teams will switch from one white ball format to the other
02:42with a three match ODI series starting Sunday in Palo Kele. Vinod Nawani
