00:00So, for me, I don't see it as a transition.

00:07I see it more as an evolution of Ranveer, the person, Ranveer, the human being, Ranveer,

00:13the artist.

00:14Dheere dheere, you know, once you get familiar with the art of expressing yourself through

00:19your medium, you look for more mediums to express yourself.

00:24This for me is an extension of the artist in me.

00:27The actor in me is purely an extension of the artist in me per se.

00:36It was outstanding working with the likes of Hansal Mehta sir and Kareena, I think both

00:44of them were more than willing to sort of go that extra step to help me feel comfortable,

00:51to help me settle down, to help me get the character, get into the character and gave

00:59me the conviction to deliver the character.

01:07The biggest challenge for me was preparing for that role.

01:11The challenge was that I am otherwise living in a very black and white world as Ranveer

01:18and everything should be good.

01:20And he was the first grey character and this grey character was going to very different

01:28places, was going to very negative places.

01:32So, navigating those places was interesting and challenging for me.

01:44Every scene was tough for me.

01:46It was not that I was sort of born into acting.

01:49But yeah, the moment that sort of everybody talks about is the slap moment where sort

01:54of Kareena slaps me and that slap never happened.

01:57She had never actually slapped me, but we had to take it 15 times because I could not

02:02swing my head to her slap.

02:04But the moment that sort of defines me in that film is the first take that I did when

02:10Kareena comes for the first time as Jazz Bhamra and she sort of talks to the family

02:18and then, you know, the scene where Ranveer says,

02:24that scene was, the first take was really bad from my side.

02:28And those three minutes looking at everybody around me were my defining moments to say

02:34Ranveer, will you be able to do it or not?

02:36Is this where you belong or not?

02:38And I'm so glad it turned out the way it did.

02:46I think everybody, everybody should have a say and if somebody is saying trained actors

02:55should be given, should be given roles, I completely and totally respect that.

03:01I think as I get to understand the medium more, I will be able to speak on it even more.

03:27But I completely respect those opinions.

03:32So, I believe that eventually everybody's reputation is at stake in a film, right?

03:40I believe everybody wants to make a good film.

03:44And just because somebody is known to you or somebody is a known face, but it compromises

03:53on the outcome of the film, nobody will take you for that.

03:56A director will never risk his reputation and cast you because you are a known face.

04:02At the end of the day, nobody wants to risk their reputation, right?

04:06People don't cast people for fun.

04:08It's their reputation at stake.

04:10And hence, it's a great responsibility for everybody, whether you're a celebrity, non-celebrity

04:15to deliver whatever is in front of you.

04:18And that's, I think that's what, that's what should matter.

04:26I don't know.

04:27That is for the audience to decide.

04:28I think that is a question that I have too.

04:32You know, I think our audience is way more evolved to understand the difference between

04:37a person and a character he plays.

04:39So far, the response that has been has been towards the character.

04:44And because the character evokes strong emotions, the response, I think, has been the way it is.

04:52But I think I trust the audience to separate the performance from the individual.

05:00Let's see how that goes.

05:07So I have no idea who the role was meant for and who got sort of, who did not get the role

05:14or whatever happened before that.

05:16I know I got a call and the dates were tight and I thought it would be a good opportunity

05:24for me to take up the role.

05:31We definitely spoke about food and acting.

05:36I don't know if any tips that I could give that sort of could help her.

05:44But what I learned from her was a lot in that set.

05:46I grew leaps and bounds on that set purely because I understood what composing yourself

05:53into character means.

05:54I think she is excellent when it comes to transforming into character before the director

06:00says action.

06:02And I'm just grateful for that opportunity.

06:11No, she never asked me to cook anything on set.

06:12I think she wanted me to stay in character, but we spoke about food a lot.

06:15We spoke about her love for food, the family's love for food, the black dal that is so secret

06:21in the family, her love for biryani.

06:24We spoke about Saif's love for food.

06:26And yeah, we often spoke about cooking together, me and Saif cooking together.

06:31That would be interesting.

06:32But yeah, that's basically what it was.

06:35But I didn't cook anything on the set, but Hansal sir and I cooked something for the

06:39wrap party.

06:40We cooked four or five dishes for 30, 40 people of the crew.

06:50You never say never.

06:51I look forward to understanding what comes my way and being able to deliver what is expected

06:59of me.

07:00For me, what is important, I think at this stage is to respect the industry, be humble

07:07about what is being given to me and very humbly and understatedly just deliver.

07:13And that is what I'm here to do.

07:20So there is a show called Maa Kasam, which is coming out.

07:26But other than that, there is nothing that is in the pipeline.

07:31Message to my fans, I think, is just thank you for accepting different facets of me.

07:38I think that the biggest victory for me in this has been acceptance.

07:44And I'm very, very thankful to everybody who's accepted the fact that one person can at least

07:49try and do many things because it's just one life.

07:53Thank you for accepting my failures and small victories along the way.
