کس شعر میں دل کا حال لکھیں
کس خواب میں آنسو بھر لائیں
کس رات میں جل کر راکھ بنیں
کس دشت میں ساگرچھلکائیں
کس تشنہ لبی کی بات کریں
کس زخم جگر کی لو دیکھیں
کس پھول کے سینے میں مہکیں
کیا روپ بھریں بہروپ بھریں
کیا ورد کریں کیا نام جپیں
وہ عمر ملی جو اپنی نہیں
وہ درد ملا جو تیرا نہیں
اس درد کے میلے صفحے پر
بے نام لکیریں کیا کھینچیں

In what desert can I let my sea overflow?
Whose thirsty lips should I speak to?
Whose wounded heart should I behold?
In whose bosom can I bloom like a flower?
What form should I take, what disguise wear?
What mantra should I chant, what name invoke?
That life was granted, yet not my own,
That pain was given, yet not yours alone.
In the margins of this pain, I scribble unnamed lines.
