00:00Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim made the right decision

00:04on goods and services tax because it is not suitable to be implemented again in the current economic situation.

00:11Economy analyst Jocelyn Williams said,

00:14if GST is implemented now, it has the potential to add burden to low-income groups.

00:21She added, if GST is reintroduced,

00:24the people will face an increase in tax burden of RM700 per individual,

00:30while proving that GST does not give benefits to ordinary people.

00:35Williams said, businesses may support GST

00:39because they do not have to bear the tax costs,

00:42on the contrary, they can demand it back.

00:45Meanwhile, Abu Sofian Yaakob from the University of Malaysia, Kelantan,

00:49said that if the government wants to implement GST again,

00:53it needs to start at a low rate of 2-3%

00:58and can be increased gradually after 3-5 years.
