24 April - National weather forecast presented by Aidan McGivern.
Transcript
00:00Hi there, a fine spring day for the vast majority, not sunny everywhere. There is an increase
00:07in cloud cover through the afternoon across parts of the Midlands, Southern England, South
00:12Wales and the odd shower will continue to affect the coast of Eastern England, one or
00:18two showers possible breaking out across South Wales and the South West. Away from these
00:22areas however, most places are going to be dry and there will be some lengthy sunny spells
00:28for North Wales, Northern England, much of Scotland and Northern Ireland. In the West
00:33where we've got the sunshine and light winds, feeling very pleasant indeed, 13, 14, could
00:38even get something like 15 Celsius, possibly South Wales, but towards the East with this
00:44continued northerly breeze, feeling on the cool side, 8 or 9 Celsius at best on that
00:51East Coast. Into the evening, the showers in many places disappear and it will be dry
00:57for a time, but another cluster of showers will increasingly affect the Northern Isles
01:01and then into North East Scotland by midnight, one or two running down the coast of North
01:06East England and then some shower development through the Irish Sea Coast into North and
01:11Central Wales and North West England, perhaps one or two towards the Midlands and Central
01:16Southern England. Now away from the showers and patchy cloud cover, there will be some
01:21clear spells and with this cool airflow still affecting many of us, it's going to be a chilly
01:27start to Thursday, frost in places, particularly for parts of Central and Western Scotland,
01:32Central and Southern England. Now Thursday starts chilly, but it's going to be another
01:37fine start in many places. However, the influence of higher pressure to the West is waning and
01:43that's going to allow a bit more cloud development, a few more showers compared with Wednesday.
01:48So after that bright start, it stays mostly sunny for Western Scotland, North West England
01:52for example. A bit of cloud there for Northern Ireland, one or two showers, but most of the
01:57showers will affect Eastern and increasingly Central and Southeastern parts of the UK.
02:03The odd moderate downpour, most of these showers will be moving through. They're not going
02:07to amount to much. However, there will be more of them in many more places compared
02:12with Wednesday. Well, we do have some sunshine and some lighter winds. Once again, 15 Celsius
02:17possible towards the West. Towards the East, again that cool North Sea breeze, 8 or 9 Celsius
02:24in places. And just to give you an idea of where we're likely to see rainfall, this is
02:29the 12-hour rainfall totals between 6am and 6pm on Thursday. The white areas are where
02:35we're likely to see very little rainfall, Western Scotland, Central Scotland, Cumbria
02:39for example. Parts of Wales and the South West will miss out on many of the showers,
02:45but you can see quite a number of showers developing there through the Midlands, Eastern
02:49England, North East Scotland and towards the South East by the end of the afternoon. Another
02:54showery day to come on Friday, more unsettled weather arriving from the South through the
02:59weekend. Bye bye.
