04 May - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin.
Transcript
00:00Good morning. Welcome to the Mayday Bank holiday weekend, which promises some
00:05places some warm sunshine, but there will also be a fair few showers around as
00:09well. Quite a grey start across parts of Northern Ireland, Southern Scotland,
00:12Northern England and North Wales. Rain and drizzle on and off here through the
00:16morning, should ease off a little bit through the day. Again, northwest
00:19Scotland doing okay for dry and bright weather. Not quite as warm here as it was
00:24yesterday, but we should still see temperatures into the mid to high teens.
00:28A brighter day over the Midlands and East Anglia. Much more sunshine here
00:31compared to yesterday. South Wales and Southern England also seeing some
00:35decent spells of sunshine through today. Just a chance of one or two showers in
00:39the far southeast later on. In the sunny spells, temperatures getting up 17, 18,
00:45maybe 19 degrees. But feeling cool where we've got that stubborn cloud over parts
00:49of Northern England, Northern Ireland, particularly the outbreaks of rain and
00:52drizzle. And it's quite a bit of mist and low cloud just clinging to the coasts
00:56across eastern Scotland and up towards the Northern Isles. That's going to be a
01:00feature of the weather through Sunday as well. Still a bit of rain and drizzle
01:04around this evening, particularly over parts of southwest Scotland. One or two
01:07heavy showers breaking out over the mountains of Scotland through the
01:11afternoon into the evening. For many though, it'll be a dry night. We'll keep
01:14some decent clear skies across parts of the south. Notice the cloud though
01:18spilling up potentially down towards the southwest. Again, it'll be pretty chilly
01:23where we've got those clear skies over central and southern areas. Temperatures
01:26well down into single figures and far freezing in some rural spots. On to
01:32Sunday's weather. And again, for a good chunk of the country tomorrow, looking
01:35dry and bright for the most part. Still pretty cloudy over southern Scotland, far
01:39north of England. And again, where it brightens up, that could spark some heavy
01:43showers across parts of Scotland. Again, particularly over the hills and
01:47mountains. Something to bear in mind if you are going up into the mountains
01:51through the day today. Again, around the coast in the northeast could be quite
01:55grey and murky. An increasing chance through tomorrow of seeing some cloud
02:00and showers breaking out across the southwest. But as I say, for many it'll
02:03be a dry day, probably a brighter day for Northern Ireland. A bit more sunshine
02:07poking through here. Could see 15 or 16. And with some sunny spells over England
02:11and Wales, 18 maybe 19 degrees Celsius. So sunshine making such a big difference of
02:17course at this time of year. And again, where we see it on Monday, it'll feel
02:21pleasantly warm after a chillyish start. We are again looking at that mix of
02:25sunshine and showers. A few more showers across Scotland during the course of
02:29Monday. Again, misty and murky potentially on some coasts towards the
02:32northeast. Greater chance of some thicker cloud and a bit of outbreaks of rain
02:38across southernmost counties of England. Still a bit of uncertainty about that. So
02:41if you've got plans on Monday in the south, do keep up to date with the
02:44forecast. Again, where we see some sunshine over the Midlands, eastern
02:47England, 18 maybe 19, perhaps even 20 degrees Celsius. But there will be, as I
02:53say, a fair few showers breaking out through the afternoon and evening. Do
