01 November - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin
Transcript
00:00We're on the midst of a pretty boisterous week of weather.
00:03There are further Met Office yellow warnings in place.
00:06More on those in just a moment.
00:08But had some pretty lively gusts of wind through Monday night
00:11from this swirl of cloud out in the Atlantic.
00:13There are other areas of cloud that
00:16are approaching, all likely to bring
00:18bouts of wet and windy weather over the next few days.
00:21This one, as I said, brought some very lively gusts
00:23and some very heavy rain during Monday night and Tuesday
00:27morning, starting to pull away.
00:29But the rain is going to linger in Shetland
00:31for much of the rest of Tuesday.
00:32Brighter skies across central Scotland, eastern Scotland.
00:36Further south, well, you may get a sunny spell or two.
00:38But there's a whole raft of showers packing in as well,
00:41still being blown along by a fairly stiff wind,
00:44not as gusty as it was through the night.
00:46But still, as I said, pretty boisterous, lively weather
00:49going on.
00:50And although it's pretty mild, obviously
00:52it doesn't feel all that mild if you
00:54get caught out in a downpour or hit by a gust of wind.
00:58Temperatures 15 to 16 degrees in the south,
01:0111 or 12 further north.
01:03The heavy showers, with some hail, perhaps a bit of thunder
01:06mixed in, will keep going through this evening
01:08across parts of the south.
01:10After a largely dry afternoon, northern England,
01:12southern Scotland will see some fairly heavy showers,
01:14again, zipping through because of the strength of the wind
01:18overnight.
01:18And actually, most places becoming
01:20dry through the early hours.
01:22And the winds will ease off a touch as well.
01:24So that combination of lighter winds and clearer skies
01:26will allow it to turn a little colder than recent nights.
01:30Nothing unusual for this time of year, far from it.
01:33But well down into single figures,
01:34certainly in the countryside.
01:36So a fresher start to Wednesday, but generally
01:38a bright start with some sunshine.
01:41However, the next weather system we
01:43saw earlier on the satellite image
01:44is going to bring some more wet and windy weather.
01:47Initially for Northern Ireland, it's a very heavy rain here.
01:49And we had a lot of heavy rain recently.
01:51So that could cause some problems.
01:53Then this band of heavy rain, those bright colours there,
01:56the yellows and the reds, moving across southern Scotland,
01:58eventually into parts of western England and Wales.
02:01Much of eastern England will stay dry
02:03through most of daylight hours.
02:05A whole host of showers then come
02:07packing in behind this line of rain, which is,
02:10as you might imagine, a weather front.
02:12And if we just rewind the clock, you
02:14can see that that set of weather fronts
02:17tied into an area of low pressure.
02:18And as this cold front in particular moves in,
02:20the isobars are already squeezing together.
02:22And that's where we're going to see some of the strongest
02:25initially for Northern Ireland, then moving across Wales
02:27and into the afternoon over much of northern England.
02:30Gusts of 55, maybe as high as 65 miles an hour
02:34on exposed coast and hills.
02:36So that could cause a few issues.
02:37We have a Met Office yellow warning in place for that.
02:40But also that heavy rain, particularly
02:42because it has been quite wet across Northern Ireland
02:45and southwest Scotland, we have a Met Office yellow rain
02:49warning in place.
02:51So there is a potential for some disruption.
02:53Certainly some ferries could be affected
02:55by those gusty winds across Irish sea coasts,
02:58but also potentially bringing the branches down.
03:01And that heavy rain, as I said, after recent downpours
03:03could cause some flooding.
03:05That line of rain then slowly moving into England and Wales.
03:08But ahead of it, much of eastern England will be dry.
03:1015, 16 degrees, still pretty mild here.
03:13Obviously, again, elsewhere, not going
03:15to feel as mild with those strong and gusty winds
03:17and that heavy rain when it comes along.
03:19And it will move its way into eastern areas.
03:22That heavy rain is going to be a blustery evening right
03:26across the country with further heavy downpours.
03:29Again, a lot of spray surface water on the roads.
03:32And that weather front may take its time to clear.
03:34It may have a little bit of a wriggle or a wave on it,
03:37as we call it.
03:38And that could hold that rain up across East Anglia
03:40and the southeast well into Thursday.
03:43Elsewhere, Thursday sees another low,
03:45a mixture of sunshine and showers, broadly speaking.
03:47But look at this, a bump in the ice bars
03:49does promise a bit of a respite.
03:51On Friday, for most places, it's
03:54looking dry and bright before another low and more weather
03:56fronts promise more wet weather to come across the country
03:59into the weekend.
04:00That's a few days away.
04:01So if you've got plans for the weekend,
04:02make sure you stay up to date with the forecasts.
