08 November - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin.
Transcript
00:00Hello. Welcome along to your national weather update.
00:03Some very lively weather on Monday night.
00:05We call this a squall line, a really active weather front,
00:09a narrow but intense band of rain working in from the west.
00:13Our Met Office warnings in place.
00:15Not just the heavy rain, which shouldn't last too long,
00:18but it will be intense.
00:19But as it moves through, the winds just suddenly whipping up.
00:23That wet and windy weather works across central and eastern
00:25areas, easing as it does so as we
00:28go through the early hours, followed by clearer spells,
00:30but then more showers coming in too.
00:33With some clearer spells, temperatures
00:35could dip down into single figures for a time,
00:37but overall, another pretty mild night.
00:41On to Tuesday, broadly speaking, it's
00:43a mix of sunshine and showers.
00:45The showers mostly starting in the west,
00:47but they don't stay there.
00:48They become more widespread through the day.
00:51Certainly plenty of downpours across parts of Wales,
00:53northwest England, and southern Scotland during Tuesday.
00:57Maybe not too many showers in northern Scotland.
01:00Decent chance of a dry, bright afternoon here.
01:02The showers a bit more hit and miss further east,
01:04but I don't think anywhere immune from a downpour.
01:07It will be fairly blustery, which
01:08means the showers will tend to move through.
01:11But where we do see them, they'll be heavy
01:13and perhaps at times turning into thunderstorms.
01:16There will be a brisk wind blowing,
01:18but between the showers, there will be a bit of sunshine.
01:20And that wind is continuing to feed in mild air.
01:23So temperatures will again be above average, perhaps up
01:25to 15 or 16 in the sunny spells across the south.
01:29During Tuesday evening, again, it's
01:31looking pretty showery, pretty much everywhere.
01:34So there'll be a lot of spray and surface water on the roads.
01:37Those showers continue to spiral in on a fairly stiff wind
01:41as we head into Wednesday.
01:42The wind, though, just shifting direction subtly.
01:45So not as much coming from the south,
01:47more coming from the west, which means the focus for showers
01:50will be slightly different.
01:51And parts of eastern England and eastern Scotland
01:53may well stay dry.
01:54Certainly looks like a drier day in southern Scotland
01:57on Wednesday compared to Tuesday.
02:00Elsewhere, though, be prepared for showers.
02:01And again, they'll be heavy.
02:03But again, moving through on a fairly brisk wind.
02:05And again, it will be mild 12 to 14, 15, perhaps even 16
02:10Celsius across the south.
02:12Going to get milder still, though, as we go
02:14towards the end of the week.
02:15We do have low pressure nearby.
02:18But at the same time, down to the south,
02:20high pressure is building in across the continent.
02:23And that will tend to hold the weather fronts at bay somewhat
02:27as we go through Thursday and Friday.
02:29So the main focus for the rain will
02:31be across northern and western areas,
02:32mainly central and eastern parts looking dry
02:35through Thursday and Friday.
02:36The isobars are quite close together, however.
02:38So it's staying windy.
02:39But there's winds always coming up from a mild direction.
