00:00At the RoboTaxi event, Elon Musk teases the $30,000 Tesla self-driving CyberCab and the larger RoboVan.
00:08Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, unveiled the company's CyberCab concept on Thursday night,
00:14hyping it after 10 years of unmet promises about autonomous cars.
00:19It is a low, silver two-seater without pedals or steering wheels.
00:24Nearly an hour after the start of Tesla's WeRobot event,
00:28Musk arrived on stage in a CyberCab and announced that the company had 21 of these cars
00:34and 50 autonomous cars at the Warner Brothers Studio in Burbank, California,
00:39where Tesla was hosting an invitation-only event.
00:43Musk stated that buyers would be able to purchase a Tesla CyberCab for less than $30,000,
00:50but he did not provide specific information about where Tesla intends to manufacture the vehicles.
00:56According to him, the company intends to start manufacturing the CyberCab by 2027.
01:02Additionally, he stated that he anticipates Tesla's Model 3
01:07and Model Y electric cars, along with unsupervised FSD,
01:12to be operational in Texas and California by the end of the following year.
01:18Full self-driving, or FSD for short, is Tesla's top-tier driver assistance technology.
01:25A supervised version is currently offered for Tesla electric cars.
01:29At the moment, FSD needs a human driver behind the wheel
01:33who is prepared to steer or brake at any time.
01:37Tesla added supervised to the product name earlier this year.
01:41The future is going to be magnificent, Musk declared on Thursday evening.
01:46Musk also disclosed plans to build an electric, self-driving robo-van
01:51that has space for 20 passengers or can be used to move cargo.
01:55He claimed that it would solve for high density, such as when moving a sports team.
02:01He said that the robo-van and CyberCab would use inductive charging,
02:05which would allow them to roll up to a station and recharge without needing to be plugged in.
02:11For years, Musk has bragged about Tesla's advancements in autonomous vehicle technology
02:17and made market-breaking promises.
02:19He has constantly created a fanciful vision for shareholders along the way,
02:24setting and missing his own deadlines.
02:26Musk promised shareholders in 2015 that Tesla vehicles would reach full autonomy in three years.
02:33No, they didn't.
02:35Before the end of 2017, Musk predicted in 2016 that a Tesla vehicle would be able to
02:41travel cross-country without the need for human assistance.
02:44That was never the case.
02:46Additionally, Musk predicted in 2019 that Tesla would have
02:501 million robo-taxi-ready cars on the road by 2020,
02:55each capable of completing 100 hours of driving work per week and earning money for their owners.
03:01This was during a call with institutional investors that would help him raise more than $2 billion.
03:07Musk continued to tell investors that the company's future lies in its autonomy
03:12in April of this year.
03:14In a conference call with analysts, he stated,
03:17I think people should not be investors in the company
03:19if they don't think Tesla's going to solve autonomy.
03:23We are, and we will.
03:26Musk welcomed guests to the party at the event on Thursday night,
03:29which he had previously described as a product launch.
03:33He also mentioned that attendees would be able to take test drives in the autonomous vehicles
03:39in the secure setting of the movie studio lots.
03:42Since revealing the concept for its Cybertruck in 2019, this was Tesla's first product launch.
03:49Since the angular steel pickup's delivery to consumers started in late 2023,
03:54there have been five voluntary recalls of the product in the United States.
