00:00In the ancient land of Macedonia, there was once a boy named Alexander.
00:04His father was King Philip, and his mother, Queen Olympias,
00:08told Alexander tales of heroes and gods, and whispered that he was destined for greatness.
00:14Alexander wasn't just any kid. By the time he was 12,
00:18he tamed a wild horse no one else could ride, naming it Bucephalus.
00:23He learned about stars, numbers, and battles,
00:26and his teacher was none other than the famous philosopher Aristotle.
00:30When Alexander turned 20, something tragic happened. His father passed away.
00:35Suddenly, Alexander was the king. He looked at the maps of the world,
00:39and decided he wanted to know what was beyond his kingdom.
00:42So, he gathered a huge army and set off on an adventure that would make him a legend.
00:48He led his soldiers across lands far and wide. They climbed over tall mountains,
00:53trudged through hot deserts, and fought giant armies.
00:57People were amazed by how brave and smart Alexander was.
01:01Wherever he went, he didn't just conquer. He also built new cities and spread ideas.
01:06One of his biggest battles was against a mighty king called Darius of Persia.
01:11Alexander and his army used their brains and bravery to win,
01:15even though the other army was way bigger.
01:18After that, Alexander became known as the Great, a great leader and warrior.
01:23Alexander kept traveling east, wanting to reach the edge of the world.
01:28But his soldiers were tired and missed their families after 13 years of conquest,
01:33so they asked if they could go home.
01:35Alexander said yes, and on their way back, he got sick and suddenly died.
01:40He was only 32 years old. Even though he was no longer there,
01:44the stories of Alexander the Great spread all over the world.
01:48He built one of the biggest empires ever, and people still tell stories about his adventures.
01:54He showed that with courage and cleverness, even a boy from a small kingdom could become great.
02:00In the world of ancient Greek mythology, there was a mighty god named Zeus,
02:05the ruler of the sky and the king of all gods.
02:09Zeus was the youngest son of the Titans, Cronus and Rhea.
02:13Cronus, fearing that one of his children would dethrone him, swallowed each of them at birth.
02:19However, Rhea saved Zeus by tricking Cronus,
02:22giving him a rock to swallow instead and hiding Zeus in a secret cave.
02:27As Zeus grew up, he learned about his father's actions and vowed to rescue his siblings.
02:32With the help of Metus, who gave Cronus a potion to vomit his swallowed children,
02:37Zeus freed his siblings, Hestia, Hera, Demeter, Poseidon, and Hades.
02:43Zeus led a great war against Cronus and the Titans, known as the Titanomachy.
02:49This epic battle shook the universe, and after a long struggle,
02:53Zeus and his siblings, with the help of the Cyclopes and the Hundred Handers, emerged victorious.
02:59With the defeat of the Titans, Zeus became the supreme ruler of the gods and humans.
03:04He resided on Mount Olympus with other gods, creating laws and maintaining order in the universe.
03:11Zeus was famously known for his lightning bolt, a powerful weapon forged by the Cyclopes.
03:17He used it to enforce his will and to control both gods and mortals.
03:22Zeus had many adventures and was involved in numerous mythological tales.
03:27One of Zeus' adventures involves the famous Golden Fleece.
03:31This wasn't just any fleece, it was a special golden ram's skin
03:34that everyone wanted because it showed who was the king.
03:38The adventure begins with a brave young man named Jason.
03:41He needed to get the Golden Fleece to become the true king.
03:44To do this, he put together a team of heroes called the Argonauts.
03:49This team had strong Hercules, musical Orpheus, and fast Atalanta.
03:54Zeus didn't go with them, but he helped from afar.
03:56He made the sea calm when it was stormy and gave them signs to follow.
04:00He wanted to see if they were brave and smart enough to finish their quest.
04:04The Argonauts faced lots of dangers.
04:06They fought scary harpies, stayed away from singing sirens, and met powerful warriors.
04:12Zeus helped them quietly, making sure they were safe but still challenged.
04:17The big moment was in Colchis, where the fleece was guarded by a dragon that never slept.
04:23With some magical help from a witch named Medea,
04:25Jason managed to make the dragon sleep and took the Golden Fleece.
04:30Happy with their victory, the Argonauts started their trip back home.
04:34Zeus watched over them, proud of what they had achieved.
04:37Their journey showed how brave and clever people could be,
04:40especially with a little help from the gods.
04:43The legacy of Zeus extends beyond ancient Greek mythology.
04:47He has been a significant figure in literature, art, and culture throughout history,
04:52representing the human fascination with power, governance, and the mysteries of the divine.
04:58In the cold, wide lands of Mongolia, a boy named Temujin was born.
05:03He would grow up to be known as Genghis Khan,
05:05the creator of the biggest empire the world had ever seen.
05:09Temujin's early days were tough.
05:12His father, a tribe leader, was poisoned, and his family was left alone.
05:16This made Temujin tough and determined.
05:19He learned to survive and protect his family in a land where tribes were always fighting.
05:24Temujin became a great warrior.
05:27He made friends with other tribes by marrying and showing he was a good leader.
05:32But he was also ruthless.
05:34He didn't hesitate to fight hard against those who opposed him.
05:37Soon, he brought all the Mongol tribes together and was named Genghis Khan,
05:42meaning universal ruler.
05:44Genghis Khan started to build his empire.
05:47He used clever and ruthless tactics in battle.
05:50His horsemen were fast and fierce,
05:52and he often used surprise attacks to win.
05:55This way, he conquered lands far and wide, from China to parts of Europe.
06:00He was known for being harsh to those who resisted him.
06:03But he also made laws to keep peace and order.
06:06He let people follow their own religions and opened up trade routes.
06:10This helped different cultures and ideas to mix and grow.
06:13His empire was a mix of toughness and smart leadership.
06:17Genghis Khan died in 1227, and no one knows exactly how.
06:21His empire was split among his sons, but they fought over it.
06:25His way of ruling, both powerful and sometimes ruthless,
06:28changed the world in big ways.
06:30He connected different places and people like never before.
06:34Genghis Khan's life shows us how someone can rise from having nothing
06:38to being one of the most powerful leaders in history.
06:41Once upon a time in Nepal, a prince named Siddhartha was born.
06:46He lived in a huge, fancy palace with lots of fun things to do
06:50and pretty gardens to play in.
06:51His father wanted to shield him from the outside world
06:55and the suffering out there.
06:56But even though he had everything a boy could ever wish for,
06:59Siddhartha was curious about what was outside his palace walls.
07:03At the age of 29, he snuck out from the palace
07:07and saw things that made him very sad.
07:09He saw people who were sick.
07:11He saw people who were poor.
07:13And he even saw people who were dying.
07:15Siddhartha wanted to know why people had to suffer
07:18and how he could help them.
07:20So he decided to leave his palace and all his good things behind.
07:23He put on simple clothes and walked into the forest.
07:26He wanted to learn about life and how to be truly happy.
07:30Siddhartha talked to wise teachers,
07:32sat quietly by himself,
07:34and thought hard about how to find happiness.
07:36After many days and nights,
07:38he sat down under a big tree called the Bodhi tree
07:41and promised to stay there until he understood how to end sadness.
07:45While sitting under the tree, something amazing happened.
07:49Siddhartha finally found the answers he was looking for.
07:52He became the Buddha, which means the Awakened One.
07:56Buddha then spent his time walking around,
07:59teaching people about kindness and how to be peaceful and happy.
08:02He told them about the Middle Way,
08:04which is like walking on a perfectly balanced path,
08:07not too far to the left or to the right.
08:10He taught them to be mindful and to live in ways that don't hurt others.
08:14Buddha showed everyone that being happy comes from inside,
08:18not from palaces and luxury.
08:20He made many friends who wanted to share his teachings.
08:23And even today, lots of people around the world remember Buddha
08:27and try to follow his path of kindness and peace.
08:30Al Capone's Valentine's Day Massacre
08:33In the icy grip of Chicago's winter on February 14, 1929,
08:38the most infamous mob hit in American history unfolds.
08:42Al Capone, aiming to consolidate power,
08:45targets rival gang leader George Buggs Moran.
08:48Capone's men, dressed up in police uniforms as a ruse,
08:52line up seven of Moran's associates against a garage wall in Lincoln Park.
08:56Mistaking the impostors for cops, the gangsters surrender their weapons.
09:01In a hail of bullets from Thompson's submachine guns,
09:04the fake cops execute the seven men before fleeing the scene,
09:08leaving behind a gruesome spectacle.
09:10The massacre shocks the nation and marks the beginning of the end for Capone,
09:15drawing federal attention that would eventually lead to his downfall.
09:19The Great Train Robbery
09:20Under the cover of darkness on August 8, 1963,
09:24a 15-strong gang of thieves ambush the Royal Mail Train en route from Glasgow to London.
09:30They tamper with railway signals to stop the train in a remote location in Ledburn, England.
09:36With military precision, they overpower the train staff
09:39and make their way to the HVP, High Value Packages, carriage.
09:43Using different tools and sheer force,
09:46they break in and offload 120 bags of banknotes totaling 2.6 million pounds.
09:53The robbers escape to a nearby farmhouse, which they've rigged to self-destruct evidence.
09:58The heist, executed without guns, becomes the stuff of legend.
10:03But sloppy mistakes lead to the arrest and conviction of most gang members,
10:07although the mastermind, Bruce Reynolds, evades capture for five years
10:12and a substantial portion of the loot is never recovered.
10:16The Lufthansa Heist
10:17It's December 11, 1978, at JFK International Airport.
10:22A well-informed crew of mob associates, connected to the Lukeyes crime family,
10:27gears up for a historic theft.
10:28They've been tipped off about a large cache of untraceable American currency
10:33flown in from West Germany, destined for the Lufthansa cargo hold.
10:37Led by Jimmy Burke, the crew strikes, coercing airport employees to lead them to the vault.
10:43They swiftly unload approximately $5 million in cash
10:47and $1 million in jewels onto a waiting van.
10:50The heist is clean, but the aftermath is anything but.
10:54Paranoia and greed lead to a murderous cover-up,
10:57with Burke allegedly ordering the execution of several associates to avoid incrimination.
11:02The heist goes down in history as one of the largest cash thefts on American soil.
11:07With the vast majority of the participants and the money vanishing without a trace,
11:12Julius Caesar was a remarkable man.
11:15Born into a noble Roman family, he faced early challenges
11:19and showed great promise as a scholar, athlete, and orator.
11:23But it was his military genius that truly set him apart.
11:27Caesar served in the Roman army, rising through the ranks with his bravery and cunning.
11:32He conquered lands far and wide, expanding the Roman Republic's territories.
11:37His victories in Gaul earned him fame and fortune.
11:41However, as Caesar's power grew, so did the envy of his fellow senators.
11:47They worried that he might become a dictator and undermine the Roman Republic's democratic ideals.
11:52Despite these fears, Caesar's popularity among the common people soared.
11:58In 49 BC, Caesar crossed the Rubicon River with his army, defying the Senate's orders.
12:04This act marked the beginning of a civil war between Caesar's forces and those of the Senate.
12:10The conflict raged across Italy, with Caesar's army ultimately prevailing.
12:15Caesar was declared dictator for life by the Senate, consolidating his power.
12:20He implemented reforms to help the poor and improve the Roman economy.
12:25His leadership brought stability and prosperity to the Roman Republic.
12:30However, not everyone supported Caesar.
12:33A group of senators, including his friend Brutus, feared his growing influence.
12:38They assassinated him in the Senate chamber.
12:41Caesar was betrayed and fatally stabbed, dying at the hands of those he thought he could trust.
12:47His death, a dramatic and shocking event, forever changed the course of history,
12:52setting the stage for the rise of the Roman Empire and the end of the Roman Republic.
12:58In a beautiful city called Salzburg, there was a little boy named Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
13:04He lived with his dad Leopold, who was a great music teacher, his mom Anna Maria,
13:09who was also really good at playing music.
13:12Mozart wasn't just any ordinary boy.
13:15When he was just three years old, he started playing with a piano,
13:19and by the time he was five, he was already making his own music.
13:23He didn't just play for fun, though.
13:26He was so good that people from all around came to hear him.
13:29His dad realized how talented he was,
13:32so they went on big trips across Europe to show off his amazing skills.
13:36He played for kings, queens, and lots of important people.
13:40Everyone was super impressed by this little boy who could play and compose music like a grown-up.
13:46But Mozart didn't stop there.
13:48As he grew up, he kept making music, over 600 pieces.
13:52He wrote fast songs, slow songs, big songs for orchestras,
13:57and small songs for just one instrument.
14:00Some of his music was happy and some was sad, but all of it was beautiful.
14:05He had a special way of making music.
14:07He could hear the entire song in his head before he even wrote it down.
14:12And he didn't just stick to the old ways of making music.
14:14He tried new things, making his music really special and different.
14:19Even though Mozart became famous and loved by people all over,
14:23his life wasn't always easy.
14:25He often didn't have much money, and he got sick a lot.
14:29But he never stopped making music.
14:31He kept playing, composing, and sharing his wonderful music with the world,
14:36until he tragically died of disease, only 35 years old.
