00:06influential business icons and philanthropists has passed away, leaving behind a legacy of

00:12excellence and selflessness.

00:15He breathed his last on 9th October 2024 at a hospital in Mumbai.

00:21As the nation mourns the loss of the visionary leader, let's take a look at some chapters

00:56Born on December 28th in 1937 in Bombay, now Mumbai, Ratan Tata was a son of Naval Tata

01:05who was adopted into the Tata family and Suni Tata, the niece of Tata Group founder Jamshedji

01:11Tata.

01:13When he was just 10, his parents separated and he was raised and adopted by Navajbhai

01:17Tata, his grandmother.

01:19Ratan Tata joined the Tata Group in 1962, the year he received a Bachelor's in Architecture

01:26degree from Cornell University.

01:28Thereafter, in 1975, he completed the Advanced Management program at Harvard Business School.

01:36In 1981, he was named the Chairman of Tata Industries where he was responsible for transforming

01:42it into a group strategy think tank and a promoter of new ventures in high-technology

01:49businesses.

01:50Ratan Tata also took over as the Chairman of Tata Sons in March 1991 and retired on

01:56December 28, 2012.

02:00During his tenure, the group's revenues grew manifold, totaling over $100 billion in 2011-12.

02:08The Tata Group is a global enterprise today, headquartered in India, comprising of 30 companies

02:14across 10 verticals.

02:16As on March 31, 2024, there are 26 publicly listed Tata companies with a combined market

02:23cap of more than $365 billion.

02:28Ratan Tata also served on the international advisory boards of Mitsubishi Corporation

02:34and JPMorgan Chase.

02:36He was conferred the honorary title of Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, Tata Industries, Tata

02:42Motors, Tata Steel, and Tata Chemicals.

02:46Among his many accolades was being honored with the Padma Vibhushan in 2008, which is

02:53India's second-highest civilian award.

02:56But for a person of his immense stature and achievements, he was known to be humble, simple,

03:02and unbelievably grounded.
