We have imagined a world where Artificial Intelligence, or AI,
00:10
manages everything from daily applications to global operations.
00:14
Now it has become a reality with devices such as telephones, computers and cars
00:19
equipped with AI, all powered by a data center.
00:22
Malaysia is no exception to this development, with the country expected to reap a profit of RM3.6 billion from the data center by 2025.
00:39
Technology giants such as Microsoft, Amazon Web Services and Google are also opening branches here.
00:46
Microsoft, we are talking about Google, all are interested to come to Malaysia.
00:52
Because we are competitive, we have a well-systematic and structured legal system
00:58
and also we are very transparent as far as power generation is concerned.
01:03
32 took 15 years to establish 70 data centers.
01:08
However, in just 2 years, Johor was able to attract 50 data centers.
01:13
The government's basic income is what drives this effort, in addition to location, low electricity rates, tax incentives and subsidies.
01:21
All this is good news for the Malaysian economy,
01:25
but the Ministry of Energy Transformation and Water Transformation, or PETRA, is aware of its environmental impact,
01:31
especially in terms of energy use, since electricity in Malaysia is still generated using coal.
01:38
Water sources are also a major concern, as large quantities are needed to cool the data center.
01:47
For example, one question to the GPT chat,
01:50
together with Electric, to turn on a Menthol for about 20 minutes using about 500 ml of water.
01:58
I'm also looking seriously how we can upgrade in terms of our grid.
02:05
We are going to be focusing in terms of ASEAN grid,
02:09
because we need each other in order to have sustainable power generation,
02:14
affordable and secure.
02:17
Hydro energy is a solution to the national energy issue.
02:20
For example, Sarawak has a luxurious hydro energy source,
02:25
which gives it the advantage of setting an example of Johor's success in attracting data centers.
02:32
Sarawak relies on hydro energy to generate 70% of its electricity,
02:37
and this source can also be used to cool data centers,
02:41
according to the two-eyes break.
02:45
This approach is in line with the seven national energy transition goals of Malaysia,
02:50
and intensifies the source of renewable energy to reduce dependence on fossil fuels,
02:55
and improve the sustainability of the entire sector.
02:59
So that's why we have to look into all the mix in terms of energy mix and so on.
03:04
For now, we're focusing on solar.
03:06
That is the fastest way to move forward migration from coal,
03:12
but we are looking also biogas, we're looking to biodiesel,
03:15
we're looking to all the other energy mix and so on.
03:19
To make sure by 2050, the net zero will be achieved,
03:24
and the only way to do it is through renewable energy.
03:29
The government is eager to achieve this goal with initiatives such as large-scale solar projects
03:35
and energy supply schemes that can influence corporates,
03:38
then facilitate transition to green energy.
03:42
CREAS uses an open grid model that allows corporates to buy or supply green electricity
03:49
with a standard fee in order to reach the state budget to increase the capacity of renewable energy
03:55
to 70% by 2050.
03:59
This strategy ensures that economic growth through data centers
04:04
does not hinder the vision of the country for a future that is sustainable and clean carbon.
