Pope Francis meets with students at Catholic University in Leuven

Pope Francis addressed concerns of both students and professors, including social inequality, the climate crisis and the role of women within the Catholic church.

00:00Well, a very warm and convivial reception for Pope Francis here at Leuven University

00:09in Belgium, which at 600 years old is one of the oldest Catholic universities in Europe.

00:14Now, he was read out a letter from university professors and students detailing some of

00:20the most consequential issues of our day, such as social inequality, social injustice,

00:25the climate crisis and the role of women within the Catholic Church, where it was put to Pope

00:29Francis that essentially there weren't any women at the top of the church, and women's intellectual

00:34contribution had been disregarded. He responded by talking about the brutality of war. He warmed

00:40against the use of religion in world domination. He talked about the marketplace and saying the

00:44pursuit of economic interest means that there will always be social injustice and social

00:49inequality. And he talked about the role of women. He said that the church was feminine,
