00:00I wanted to start out by asking about the episode you directed. I was curious if there's anything

00:04you took away from a movie set you worked on or something a director did that you wanted

00:08to directly apply to the set you were working on. It's kind of like I did SNL recently and I didn't

00:13you know you don't at this point and this doesn't have to do with status or anything but there's no

00:18reason for me to do it you know if I'm trying to promote something I guess but for me personally

00:25it's like am I getting lazy what kind of energy am I bringing do I still have the engine that I

00:30had and all that kind of stuff so I think with directing the people that I've appreciated the

00:36most who you know have been I think the most talented are the people with the least amount

00:43of pretense you know and the least amount of ego I think that I bring that anyway but I think that

00:50that was somewhat conscious I got super excited about other actors it was really fun not having

00:57to focus on well what am I doing in the scene and what am I this and what how are they directing and

01:03are they fucking it up or they you know enhancing it or whatever and it was really fun to get into

01:09the behavioral architecture of it and then also be able to work with dps and you know production

01:14designers and wardrobe and all that kind of stuff it was just more fun it was just you know it just

01:21got my it my interest and my obsession with storytelling just grew was there anything in

01:28particular that you guys were looking for when you were trying to cast young royal or younger

01:32I mean yeah you're looking for a sense you're looking for a sense but then you're also looking

01:37at your past self where like I said I mean not that he has a big ego because he was so wonderful

01:43and he was so into it and but you you know a younger version of you you're gonna get those

01:50adolescent add-ons that you've let go of since I'm a 56 year old guy he's in his 30s it's a

01:56different thing so you know he's he's me in no country or before and it was kind of it's it's

02:04it was really fun I think that I hit him too hard in the in the beginning where I was like

02:10you know what are you doing I don't understand but I think that that's just my nature to kind

02:16of poke and prod and you know and once I once I felt like he could deal with it he was he was

02:25one of us and it was okay but there was a sense about him that I really liked you know I think

02:31he was trying to get a voice thing down I think he did a really good job at it but it was but it

02:36was more his body language in the way he kind of held himself that I think made it work well

02:44though it was a very strange thing to be able to do which is why I'm having trouble talking about

02:48no weird
