00:00Nothing wakes people into alertness, vigilance, and preparedness than when calamity strikes.

00:06And no calamity is greater in magnitude than the big one when it hits.

00:10As such, the nation is all set for this quarter's earthquake drill with emphasis on the effectiveness

00:18of the dock, cover, and hold mode of action as we hear more from our Joshua Garcia.

00:26National Defense Administrator Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno emphasized the importance

00:30of the dock, cover, and hold procedure during an earthquake at today's 3rd quarter nationwide

00:35simultaneous earthquake drill.

00:36According to Nepomuceno, contrary to popular belief that this practice is no longer effective,

00:41it has been a globally recognized safety measure since the time of wars and disasters.

00:45I assure you, even if you want to run, even if you're an athlete, you will be out of balance.

00:52So, the dock, cover, and hold is important, let's not make fun of it, let's not discredit

01:02it.

01:03Aside from the response teams in Metro Manila, rescue teams from the different regions also

01:07participated in the earthquake drill.

01:09This was done, according to officials, to test whether those responsible for providing

01:12aid can effectively respond to emergencies in Metro Manila.

01:16The activity also aims to raise public awareness and preparedness among Filipinos in the event

01:41of major disasters such as the Big One, according to NDRRMC.

01:45Due to the presence of six active trenches, including the Manila Trench, the next simultaneous

01:49earthquake drill will focus on preparing for a possible tsunami scenario.

01:53For the 4th quarter NCED, we're looking at an exercise that will recognize the need for

02:00preparedness in a tsunami scenario.

02:03That's what we'll do.

02:05Meanwhile, aside from Barangay Capitolio in Pasig, where the ceremonial pressing of the

02:09button for the 3rd quarter nationwide simultaneous earthquake drill was initiated, other participants

02:14included local governments like Quezon City, government offices and agencies such as People's

02:19Television, Apple Production Unit Printing Press, Philippine Information Agency, as well

02:23as LGUs in Central Luzon and Calabarzon.
