St. Peter and the foundation of the Christian church

Peter was a fisherman on the Sea of Galilee before he followed Jesus. Among the apostles, he listened devoutly to the teachings of Jesus. A key moment in his life was when he proclaimed Jesus as the Christ and the Son of God. However, Peter denied Jesus three times during his arrest, as predicted. After Jesus' resurrection, Peter became a determined leader of Christianity. He eventually suffered martyrdom in Rome by being crucified upside down under Emperor Nero.
