DOTr chief assures PUV modernization program to push through

00:05would draw some 90,000 picketeers and cripple today's commute on the road.

00:10Sadly enough, the strike yielded deflating results with a back end of the two-day strike

00:15expected to fizzle out like a dud tomorrow, as our Alan Francisco reports.

00:24The government closely monitored the transport strike carried out by the groups Pistón and

00:29Manibela today. The two groups are focused in opposing the PUV modernization program.

00:34The Department of Transportation is confident that no passengers were stranded because first,

00:40only a few participated in the strike. Second, various government agencies provided free rides.

00:46The Philippine National Police also kept an eye on those forcing others to join the strike.

00:51Meanwhile, Secretary Jaime Bautista stood firm that the PUV modernization program in

00:57the country will continue.

01:21Earlier this morning, along Commonwealth and Quezon City,

01:24some jeepney drivers ignored the transport strike. The flow of passenger rides in the area

01:29was smooth. There were many vehicles in operation, both traditional and modern jeepneys.

01:35The same situation was observed at a jeepney terminal in Caloocan serving the Malabon-Acacia

01:40Monumento route. According to their officer, Leandro Doplin, they did not join the transport

01:46strike because 99 percent of their group's drivers are already consolidated.

01:54Meanwhile, regarding the issue of postponing the Department of Transportation's imposition of fines

02:11on motorists entering toll highways in Greater Metro Manila without radio frequency identification

02:17tags, the fines were supposed to be charged on October 1 this year but have been postponed again

02:22with a possible implementation in January next year.

02:52and this just means that many will support this program.
