France set to announce new government after months of political deadlock

00:00Prime Minister Michel Barnier is nearing the formation of a cabinet,

00:04and some names have been leaked to the public.

00:06Love or hate his choices, locals seem unfazed.

00:12I just feel that these politicians have over-inflated egos and a lust for power.

00:20Barnier supports them. We have to have confidence in him.

00:24I would have preferred some from the left or some moderate.

00:27Barnier's unofficial government appears to be mostly right-leaning,

00:32with the right-wing Republicans party taking key spots.

00:36Since it was denied the prime ministership,

00:39even though it won the largest number of seats in parliament,

00:42the left has been refusing to participate in Barnier's government,

00:45saying that democracy is being undermined in France.

00:49I feel we're just doing the same thing over again.

00:52The message for the French is that the best way to govern France is to lose elections.

00:57Despite this, members of the centre-right claim there's a balance.

01:03No one won these elections, but our base between the presidential camp and the Republicans

01:07is the most important at the National Assembly in terms of member numbers.

01:12The cabinet should be unveiled by Sunday.

01:15Nonetheless, facing large financial deficit and a looming budget deadline,

01:20the hard work for Barnier's government may have just begun.
