00:00Hello and welcome to everybody to the Etosella Cup between Afghanistan and South Africa powered
00:27by Super Cola. It'll be the first One Day International of three that will be happening
00:31in this competition and it's happening at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium which is hosting
00:35its 250th One Day International. Well we were out in the middle not so long ago, the toss
00:40happened and it was Aiden Markram who won that toss and decided that after winning South
00:45Africa would have a bat first which seemed like the right decision. When you had a look
00:49at the surface it looked like it was going to play really well and maybe would offer
00:54a little bit of assistance and maybe skid down and keep it a little bit low as the match
00:57went on. But in general, newly laid 12 months ago it was predicted to be a really good surface.
01:03South Africa, well they made a few changes. Some of their big stars not here. De Zorzi,
01:06Hendrix at the top of the order, Markram, Stubbs coming in at 3 and 4, Varenda, Jason
01:11Smith was the man making his debut and in the bowling attack of Mulder, Petlacoir, Fortain,
01:16Berger and the experience of Ngiri. For Afghanistan, Abraham was missing obviously through injury
01:23and Gerbaz, Hossain at the top of their row mat, Ashmatullah, Nabi, Hamza, Galbadin, Rashid,
01:30the youngster Govindan Deva, Faruqi and Karuti was the bowling attack that they were deciding to use.
01:39As mentioned the surface was looked like it was going to be pretty good and when we had a look
01:43at it was newly laid 12 months ago and it looked in pristine condition. The nature of the surface
01:48here, in charge it tends to be one that stays a little bit low and the ball tends to skid through
01:53so that was maybe going to suit the guys who bowled wicket to wicket and maybe offer some
01:57assistance for the spinners particularly as the game goes on. So that was the team news, that was
02:03the decision at the toss, let's go upstairs to Nala Brown and Vernon Fairlander for the first delivery
02:08of the day. And we're just about ready as we witness the countdown on the big screen,
02:13a couple of seconds to go.
02:22And that's the danger when you look for a bit of swing every now and again,
02:25just over pitch on this occasion but a classy cover drive from Reza Hendricks.
02:33And another half volley, Tony Di Zorzi, he's not going to miss on that, that's an excellent drive.
02:43Oh, I tell you what, he's changed angle and it's worked for him, he's come around the wicket,
02:48it looked like an inside out but onto the stumps of Reza Hendricks.
02:52Afghanistan pick up their first, South Africa 17 for one.
02:58Drag that one on as well, it's the slow ball delivery again, the 45 degree bat angle once
03:03again from Aidan Markham and it really is not the way to present that bat on this kind of surface.
03:08Dragged on again, the second one of the innings.
03:13Oh, that's gone straight up in the air, Miron is under it and takes the catch,
03:18it's the skipper, Hashmutullah Shahidi and now Faruqi has three.
03:31And a wicket, Stubbs is gone.
03:34I think it deflected off the wicket keeper.
03:44Smith goes for a duck on debut and South Africa are all over the place at the moment.
03:51Yeah, brilliant bowling.
03:56Oh, this is close, he's asking it and he's been given out,
04:00Alaa Mohamed Ghazanfar takes the third one.
04:04He's gone for the debut, original decision is out,
04:08and picked upside off, picked in line, wicket is unpaid for,
04:14does that stay to an original decision out?
04:20Beautiful ball, magnificent delivery.
04:27Well, well, well.
04:30Let's have a look, yes, the bat is not behind the crease, the rule is,
04:36you gotta have to put the bat behind the crease.
04:52Evening, Brian, that's a lovely shot.
04:54Oh, he's bowled in, this time around, he doesn't miss it,
04:58and he breaks that threatening partnership of 39 runs, Yusuphotun knows it,
05:04he's not been able to read that.
05:11Yeah, talk about bringing those boundary riders up,
05:14there's absolutely no need to have one back because it's gone the distance.
05:18Brilliant shot.
05:22Gets it fine, going fine,
05:26won't travel to the boundaries, back for the second.
05:31And that's a half century for Mulder,
05:34great application, mid and half century for Mulder in ODI cricket.
05:42Oh, he's got it, he's got it, he's got it.
05:45Oh, gets through his defences this time, brilliant by Haruki,
05:49round the wicket and just skids on, gets through between bat and pad,
05:53clatters into that off stump, and that is the final blow,
05:56you would think, with regards to trying to wrap up this innings.
06:04He's found in front, the finger goes up, Rassik takes his second.
06:08Pitching outside, impact in line, wicket is hitting,
06:19stayed with your original decision, out, your on-screen signal now.
06:25That's it, South Africa, all out for 106.
06:30Amazing performance from Allah Mohammed, taking three for 20,
06:34hailing from Coast Province, wanted to become a fast bowler,
06:37suggested by the coach to become a spinner, taking the wicket,
06:41success for Allah Mohammed.
06:44Afghanistan need 107 to win in their allotted 50 overs.
06:56He's gone down, Tom, yeah, he's gone,
06:59thick outside air, it's gone, flown down to third man,
07:02and Lungesali Ngiri gets his man.
07:08Looks for the sweep, takes his time, finger is up.
07:19Pitching line, impact in line, wicket is hitting,
07:22stayed with your original decision, out, your on-screen signal now.
07:32Short ball and pulled away, magnificently for four.
07:39Afghanistan be very, very happy with it,
07:42this boundary coming after 13 delivery,
07:44so surely give some momentum to Afghanistan.
07:52Oh, that's a lovely shot through extra cover.
07:55Here's Hassan, and he's got a boundary.
08:02Oh, he's bowled it, he's given away his wicket.
08:05Riaz Hassan doing all the hard work, gets carried away,
08:09and one shot too many, not needed, gives away his wicket.
08:17Goes for the big shot, and connects, that's nasty play.
08:21He's considering, he's considering, is he going to send it upstairs? Yes, he is.
08:34I can just tell you off screen, Breezy Hendricks is smiling.
08:40Pitching in line, impact in line,
08:44wicket is hitting, stay with your original decision, out.
08:51Your on-screen signal now.
08:52Yeah, there's confirmation, it's town dead, he took his time in giving it.
09:01And he's gone downtown,
09:04and it's great comfortability of taking the area over to Umazai,
09:08and it's his second maximum for the night.
09:13Well, that's Goberdin now, he's on seven, six,
09:17a little pick-up shot, helping the ball with the angle, all the way over the ropes.
09:28It's gone high into the night sky, and it's gone for another six.
09:33All of a sudden, Goberdin, having struggled to find his range, has now well and truly found it.
09:46Well, shoveled through the leg side, it will skip across the lush outfield in Sharjah,
09:54and Goberdin Naib says, enough's enough.
10:02That's another cracking shot, four runs to Goberdin Naib,
10:07who's not gonna wait, a hundred up for Afghanistan.
10:12Clubs it over the top, over towards the boundary, he'll pick up the boundary, score's level now.
10:23Is he going to go for the big shot?
10:28Can Afghanistan finish it off in this over? Last ball of the over.
10:33He's tried to club it, and they will take the single.
10:36Goberdin Naib didn't want it, but will still have to take it.
10:40Afghanistan has done it.
10:43Afghanistan has defeated South Africa for the very first time in cricket.
10:52You can tell from the dugout, everyone very happy.
10:57Happy with the win, the Afghan fans.
11:01Great victory for Afghanistan.
11:03Well, it didn't prove to be that difficult a task for Afghanistan.
11:10They had a bit of a stutter at the start.
11:12I thought Ngidi and Berger were superb with the new ball,
11:16and then Fratein, once he was introduced, he played his part.
11:18And you can see four quick wickets fall quickly,
11:20but then a wonderful partnership by Almazar and Goberdin
11:23made that sure that everything was steadied and everything was calmed down.
11:26And they got home comfortably, just 26 overs, getting to the 107 that was required.
11:31Good bowling there by Ngidi up front.
11:32Four overs, one for six.
11:33And as I said, Fratein was pretty impressive with his two wickets of his nine overs.
11:38So there's the match summary.
11:39South Africa, 33 overs, bowled out for 106.
11:42Brilliant performance by Afghanistan with the ball in hand.
11:44And then Afghanistan, after a little bit of a jitter up front,
11:47using a few wickets, were comfortable in the end.
11:49And 26 overs, getting to the total of 107,
11:52and winning the match by six wickets.
11:55A fantastic historic occasion for Afghanistan,
11:58winning their first one international against the lack of South Africa.
12:02A brilliant performance.
12:03We hope you enjoyed the coverage,
12:04and we look forward to your company on Friday afternoon.
