00:00Hello and welcome to everybody to the Etosella Cup between Afghanistan and South Africa powered
00:25by Super Cola.
00:26It'll be the first one day international of three that will be happening in this competition
00:31and it's happening at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium which is hosting its 250th one day
00:36international.
00:37Well we were out in the middle not so long ago, the toss happened and it was Aiden Markram
00:40who won that toss and decided that after winning South Africa would have a bat first which
00:45seemed like the right decision.
00:47When you had a look at the surface it looked like it was going to play really well and
00:51maybe would offer a little bit of assistance and maybe skid down and keep it a little bit
00:55low as the match went on, but in general newly laid 12 months ago it was predicted
01:00to be a really good surface.
01:01South Africa well they made a few changes, some of the big stars not here, De Zorzi,
01:05Hendricks at the top of the order, Markram, Stubbs coming in at 3 and 4, Varenda, Jason
01:10Smith was the man making his debut and in the bowling attack of Mulder, Pehlequah, Fortein,
01:15Berger and the experience of Ngiri.
01:18For Afghanistan, Abraham was missing obviously through injury and Gurbaz Hossain at the top
01:23of the order, Rahmat, Hashmatullah, Nabi, Hamza, Galbadin, Rashid, the youngster, Gaffand
01:31and Farouki and Karuti was the bowling attack that they were deciding to use.
01:37As mentioned the surface looked like it was going to be pretty good and when we had a
01:41look at it it was newly laid 12 months ago and it looked in pristine condition.
01:45The nature of the surface here in Sharjah tends to be one that stays a little bit low
01:50and the ball tends to skid through so that was maybe going to suit the guys who bowled
01:54wicket to wicket and maybe offer some assistance for the spinners particularly as the game
01:59goes on.
02:00So that was the team news, that was the decision at the toss, let's go upstairs to Nala Brown
02:04and Vernon Fairlander for the first delivery of the day.
02:08And we're just about ready as we witness the countdown on the big screen, a couple of seconds
02:13to go.
02:21And that's the danger when you look for a bit of swing every now and again, just over
02:25pitch on this occasion but a classy cover drive from Reza Hendricks.
02:32Another half volley, Tony Di Zorzi, he's not going to miss on that, that's an excellent
02:37drive.
02:38I tell you what, he's changed angle and it's worked for him, he's come around the wicket,
02:46it looked like an inside out, but onto the stumps of Reza Hendricks, Afghanistan pick
02:51up their first, South Africa 17 for one.
02:54Dragged that one on as well, it's the slow ball delivery again, the 45 degree bat angle
03:01once again from Aidan Markham and it really is not the way to present that bat on this
03:06kind of surface.
03:07Dragged on again, the second one of the innings.
03:12Oh that's gone straight up in the air, Midon is under it and takes the catch, it's the
03:17skipper, Ashmutullah Shahidi and now Faruqi has three and a wicket, Stubbs is gone, I
03:35think it deflected off the wicket keeper, bowled, Smith goes for a duck on debut and
03:46South Africa are all over the place at the moment, yeah brilliant bowling, oh this is
03:56close, he's asked it and he's been given out, Alaa Muhammad Ghazanfar takes the third one,
04:03he's gone for the debut, original decision is out and picked upside off, picked in line,
04:11wicket is on par, is it still to an original decision out?
04:18Beautifully bowled, magnificent delivery, run out, well, well, well, let's have a look,
04:30yes the bat is not behind the crease, the rule is you gotta have to put the bat behind
04:37the crease, catch it, catch it, evening Brian, that's a lovely shot, this time around he
04:56doesn't miss it and he breaks that threatening partnership of 39 runs, he's not been able to
05:07read that, yeah talk about bringing those boundary riders up, there's absolutely no need to have one
05:16because it's gone the distance, brilliant shot,
05:25gets it fine, going fine, won't travel to the boundaries, back for the second
05:35and that's a half century for Mulder, great application
05:38mid and half century for Mulder in ODI cricket,
05:45oh gets through his defences this time, brilliant, a hierarchy around the wicket and just skids on,
05:52gets through between bat and pad, clatters into that off stump
05:55and that is the final blow you would think with regards to trying to wrap up this innings,
06:00he's found in front, the finger goes up, Rassi takes a second,
06:11pitching outside, impact in line, wicket is hitting,
06:18stayed with your original decision out, your on-screen signal now,
06:24that's it, South Africa, all out for 106,
06:29amazing performance from Allah Mohammed, taking three for 20, hailing from coast province,
06:34wanted to become a fast bowler, suggested by the coach to become a spinner, taking the kick,
06:40success for Allah Mohammed, Afghanistan need 107 to win in their allotted 50 overs,
06:54he's gone down town, yeah he's gone,
06:57three cards are there, it's gone, flown down to third man and Lungasar Lingiri gets his man,
07:07looks for the sweep, takes his time, finger is up,
07:11the chin line, impact in line, wicket is hitting, stay with your original decision out,
07:25your on-screen signal now,
07:31short ball and pulled away magnificently for four,
07:34Afghanistan be very very happy with in this boundary coming
07:41after 13 delivery, so Shanley give some momentum to Afghanistan,
07:50he's given away his wicket, Riaz Hassan doing all the hard work, gets carried away
07:56and one shot too many, not needed, gives away his wicket,
08:04goes for the big shot and connects, that's nasty play,
08:16he's considering, he's considering, is he going to send it upstairs, yes he is,
08:20I can just tell you off screen, Riza Hendricks is smiling,
08:27pitching in line, impact in line,
08:30the chin line, wicket is hitting, stay with your original decision out,
08:38your on-screen signal now, there's confirmation, still undead, he took his time in giving it,
08:48he's gone downtown, it's great
08:51comfortability of taking the aerial, it's his second maximum for tonight,
09:00well that's good, but he knows answer, six, little pickup shot, helping the ball with the angle,
09:09all the way over the ropes,
09:15it's gone high into the night sky and it's gone for another six,
09:19all of a sudden, Goulberdine having struggled to find his range, has now well and truly found it,
09:34well shoveled through the leg side, it will skip across the lush outfield in Sharjah
09:41and Goulberdine names it, enough's enough,
09:49that's another cracking shot, four runs to Goulberdine Naib, who's not gonna wait,
09:56a hundred up for Afghanistan,
10:01top six, over the top, over towards the boundary, he'll pick up a boundary, scores level now,
10:12is he going to go for the big shot,
10:13in Afghanistan, finish it off in this over, last ball of the over,
10:21he's tried to club it and they will take the single, Goulberdine Naib didn't want it but
10:26will still have to take it, Afghanistan has done it, Afghanistan has defeated South Africa
10:33for the very first time in cricket, you can tell from the dugout, everyone very happy,
10:41Ashmatullah Shahidi, happy with the win, the Afghan fans, great victory for Afghanistan.
10:54Well, it didn't prove to be that difficult a task for Afghanistan, they had a bit of a stutter at
10:58the start, I thought Inghidi and Berger were superb with the new ball and then Fartain,
11:03once he was introduced, he played his part and you can see four quick wickets fall quickly but
11:07in a wonderful partnership by Almazar and Goulberdine made that sure that everything
11:11was steadied and everything was calmed down and they got home comfortably, just 26 overs,
11:15getting to the 107 that was required, good bowling there by Inghidi up front, four overs,
11:19one for six and as I said Fartain was pretty impressive with his two wickets of his nine
11:24overs, so there's the match summary, South Africa 33 overs, bowled out to 106, brilliant performance
11:29by Afghanistan with the ball in hand and then Afghanistan off a little bit of a jitter up front
11:34using a few wickets, were comfortable in the end and 26 overs, getting to the total of 107
11:39and winning the match by six wickets, a fantastic historic occasion for Afghanistan,
11:44winning their first one international against the luck of South Africa, a brilliant performance,
11:49we hope you enjoyed the coverage and we look forward to your company on Friday afternoon.
12:19you
