Religious teacher claims trial to three charges of sexual assault against child

A 43-year-old religious teacher pleaded not guilty at the Seremban Sessions Court on Wednesday (Sept 18) to three charges of committing physical sexual assault against a child.

The accused, Mohd Hafidz Eshak, was also charged at the Port Dickson Magistrate's Court with molesting a teacher undergoing practical training.

00:06sexual assault against a child in Port Dickson.
00:10The 43-year-old accused pleaded not guilty to the charges at the Seremban Sessions Court
00:14on Wednesday.
00:16The accused allegedly assaulted the then 13-year-old girl at a house and a religious centre in
00:22March, June and August.
00:24He was the chairman of the religious centre, and if convicted, the charges under the sexual
00:29offences against children act will provide for a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping.
00:36The accused's lawyer said the court should take note that the case was not related to
00:40the recent police operation where hundreds of children were rescued from 20 care centres
00:46in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan in a probe involving child abuse and sexual crimes.
00:52The court fixed bail at 12,000 ringgit with one surety and ordered the accused to stay
00:58away from the victim, among other directives.
01:02Earlier at the Port Dickson Magistrates' Court, the accused was also charged with molesting
01:06a teacher at the religious centre.
01:09The offence allegedly took place on August 18, and if convicted, he will be jailed for
01:15up to 10 years or fined or given whipping or any of the two punishments.
01:19He was allowed a bail of 4,000 ringgit.
