Hi friends! Today we will learn what are fractions. So let's start.
00:10
Fractions are dividing of a whole.
00:14
Suppose your mom cooks a yummy pizza for you.
00:18
And then she cuts the pizza into two equal parts.
00:22
Then each part is said to be half of the pizza.
00:27
Which is written as one by two in fractions.
00:32
Because it is one part out of two equal parts.
00:36
So we write it as half pizza, one by two.
00:42
Now let's see if we divide the same pizza into three equal parts.
00:49
Here each part of the pizza is one third of the pizza.
00:55
That is one part out of the three equal parts.
00:59
So if you are taking this one slice of pizza, you are taking one third pizza.
01:07
One part out of three equal parts.
01:11
Similarly, here we have a pizza divided into four equal parts.
01:18
And if you take one part of this pizza, you have taken one quarter of the pizza.
01:25
Or one fourth of the pizza.
01:28
That is one part out of four equal parts.
01:33
Similarly, here we have a pizza which is divided into five equal parts.
01:41
So if you take this one piece, you have taken one fifth of the pizza.
01:48
That is one part out of five equal parts.
01:52
And if you take two pieces of this pizza, you have taken two fifth of the pizza.
02:00
That is two parts out of five equal parts.
02:05
Here you have a pizza which is divided into eight equal parts.
02:11
Or eight equal dividing.
02:14
And you are taking only one piece of this pizza.
02:19
So you have taken one eighth of this pizza.
02:24
What if you take two pieces from this pizza?
02:29
You have taken two eighth of this pizza.
02:34
Here we have a chocolate.
02:37
And it is divided into ten pieces.
02:41
Or ten equal dividing.
02:44
Now if you take five pieces from this chocolate, you have taken five by ten.
02:52
Which equals to one by two.
02:56
So you have taken half of the chocolate.
03:00
Or five by ten.
03:02
That is five parts out of ten equal parts.
03:06
Similarly, one eighth is one part out of eight equal parts.
03:13
Similarly, one tenth is one part out of ten equal parts.
03:19
Similarly, one twelfth is one part out of twelve equal parts.
03:26
Now, here we have a chocolate.
03:30
And it has twelve small pieces in it.
03:34
So, if I take one piece, so what fraction of the chocolate I have taken?
03:41
I have taken one twelfth of the chocolate.
03:46
Here we have another chocolate.
03:48
It has four equal parts.
03:52
Now, if I take one piece of this chocolate, what fraction of the chocolate have I taken?
04:00
I have taken one fourth of the chocolate.
04:04
Now, what if I take two pieces of this chocolate?
04:09
What fraction of the chocolate have I taken?
04:13
I have taken two by fourth of the chocolate.
04:17
Which is also equal to half of the chocolate.
04:21
Now, here we have a pizza.
04:24
Which is already cut into eight equal slices.
04:29
Now, if I take two slices of this pizza, what fraction of the pizza I have taken?
04:37
I have taken two eighths of the pizza.
04:42
And if I take one slice of this pizza, what fraction of the pizza have I taken?
04:49
I have taken one eighth of the pizza.
04:53
If I give you three slices of this pizza, what fraction of the pizza will I give you?
05:00
It will be three eighths of the pizza.
05:04
So, now you know very well what is a fraction.
05:09
Fraction is a dividing of a whole.
05:12
And one by two means one out of two equal parts.
05:17
One by three means one out of three equal parts.
05:23
One by four means one out of four equal parts.
05:27
Similarly, one by eight, one by ten, one by twelve.
05:35
Two by eight means two parts out of eight equal parts.
05:40
Three by eight means three parts out of eight equal parts.
05:45
So, now you know what are fractions.
05:48
Now, you may go ahead and take a quiz to learn more.
05:52
Bye-bye.
