00:14Suppose your mom cooks a yummy pizza for you.
00:18And then she cuts the pizza into two equal parts.
00:22Then each part is said to be half of the pizza.
00:27Which is written as one by two in fractions.
00:32Because it is one part out of two equal parts.
00:36So we write it as half pizza, one by two.
00:42Now let's see if we divide the same pizza into three equal parts.
00:49Here each part of the pizza is one third of the pizza.
00:55That is one part out of the three equal parts.
00:59So if you are taking this one slice of pizza, you are taking one third pizza.

01:11Similarly, here we have a pizza divided into four equal parts.
01:18And if you take one part of this pizza, you have taken one quarter of the pizza.
01:25Or one fourth of the pizza.
01:28That is one part out of four equal parts.
01:33Similarly, here we have a pizza which is divided into five equal parts.
01:41So if you take this one piece, you have taken one fifth of the pizza.
01:48That is one part out of five equal parts.
01:52And if you take two pieces of this pizza, you have taken two fifth of the pizza.

02:05Here you have a pizza which is divided into eight equal parts.
02:11Or eight equal dividing.
02:14And you are taking only one piece of this pizza.
02:19So you have taken one eighth of this pizza.
02:24What if you take two pieces from this pizza?
02:29You have taken two eighth of this pizza.
02:34Here we have a chocolate.
02:37And it is divided into ten pieces.
02:41Or ten equal dividing.
02:44Now if you take five pieces from this chocolate, you have taken five by ten.
02:52Which equals to one by two.
02:56So you have taken half of the chocolate.
03:00Or five by ten.
03:02That is five parts out of ten equal parts.
03:06Similarly, one eighth is one part out of eight equal parts.
03:13Similarly, one tenth is one part out of ten equal parts.

03:30And it has twelve small pieces in it.

03:48It has four equal parts.
03:52Now, if I take one piece of this chocolate, what fraction of the chocolate have I taken?

04:04Now, what if I take two pieces of this chocolate?
04:09What fraction of the chocolate have I taken?
04:13I have taken two by fourth of the chocolate.
04:17Which is also equal to half of the chocolate.
04:21Now, here we have a pizza.
04:24Which is already cut into eight equal slices.
04:29Now, if I take two slices of this pizza, what fraction of the pizza I have taken?
04:37I have taken two eighths of the pizza.
04:42And if I take one slice of this pizza, what fraction of the pizza have I taken?
04:49I have taken one eighth of the pizza.
04:53If I give you three slices of this pizza, what fraction of the pizza will I give you?
05:00It will be three eighths of the pizza.
05:04So, now you know very well what is a fraction.
05:09Fraction is a dividing of a whole.
05:12And one by two means one out of two equal parts.

05:27Similarly, one by eight, one by ten, one by twelve.
05:35Two by eight means two parts out of eight equal parts.
