00:00Talking about your time with Sheffield Wednesday, is there any regret about the way you departed
00:11there or even in hindsight was it still too good to turn down going to Newcastle?
00:17I simply had to take the opportunity to manage Newcastle and from there, look, most people
00:24are going to save me time there. It was this, that and the other. I had to take the opportunity.
00:33It wasn't easy at times, that's for sure, but I'm a Newcastle lad who's managed Newcastle
00:38so not many can say that and it was difficult and I understand that I had to make an awful
00:44decision but I simply couldn't, I couldn't refuse.
00:49If you could relive that situation, would the decision be the same from you?
00:54Yeah, I think you make decisions in your life and you stay with them. Some you make the
00:59right ones and some you might not make them at all but I simply had to take the opportunity
01:05to manage Newcastle and I pleased to have done it.
01:08Obviously, it was only for a number of months but the fact that you've spoken so fondly
01:13about them, does that show the size of the club?
01:16They've got a wonderful support and a fiercely loyal support. I'll never forget the day at
01:22Wembley when I was at Hull and we beat them in the play-off final and looking round at
01:26the masses of Sheffield Wednesday fans, they're a huge big club with a huge, huge fan base.
01:32As I said, fiercely loyal, big history, big tradition, a big, big football club at the end of the day.
