Russia, China begin massive 'Ocean 2024' joint naval exercises

Russia has launched its ‘Ocean-2024’ naval exercises across the Pacific and Arctic Oceans, as well as the Mediterranean, Caspian, and Baltic Seas.

The drills involve over 400 warships, submarines, and support vessels, approximately 120 naval aircraft and helicopters, and more than 90,000 personnel.

Ships and aircraft from China’s People’s Liberation Army are also participating.

The "Ocean" exercises were first conducted by the USSR Navy in 1970 and took place in 1975, 1977, 1983 and 1985. These were some of the largest naval drills in world history at the time.
