00:18With frequent protests among locals, as was the case this summer in Mallorca, municipalities

00:23are trying to find solutions.

00:26One of the latest, a proposal to charge two euros at the Trevi Fountain in Rome.

00:30For the city's top tourism official, the access fee would help manage the crowds, and help

00:35in store a better code of conduct among visitors.

00:40The monument already has three entrances.

00:42So one could imagine an entrance, a normal exit, and an emergency exit.

00:47Of course we will experiment with this before making it operational.

00:54The proposal comes after Venice tested out a five-euro fee to visit this spring and summer.

00:59Greece announced it plans to levy a 20-euro tax on cruise ship visitors during the peak

01:03summer season.

01:05The prime minister said over-tourism isn't a problem on the whole in Greece.

01:09But it is becoming one in popular destinations like Santorini and Mykonos.

01:14Barcelona is also in storing a tax on cruise ship visitors that stay for less than 12 hours.

01:20The city's mayor has vowed to end short-term apartment rentals to tourists by 2028.

01:25The city of Bruges in Belgium also announced its plans to crack down on short-term rentals.

01:31And it has had a cap of two cruise ships a day since 2019 in the nearby port of Zeebruge.

01:38Such moves come as the UN's tourism agency says that tourism is surging, and exceeding

01:43expectations by two percent, with Europe remaining the world's top destination.
