Great Britain’s Dimitri Coutya wins double gold in fencing

Dimitri Coutya has made history for Great Britain at the Paris Paralympics! The 26-year-old wheelchair fencer secured gold in the men’s individual epee category B, adding to his foil victory from earlier in the week.

00:03in Paris, which is as close to a home games as we can get without it actually being at home,

00:08and to win the medals that I have in front of so many friends and family has just been

00:15an absolute dream, and I don't think I'm ever going to experience any other competition quite

00:19like this one in the rest of my career. China are just an absolutely incredible force,

00:23not just in fencing, you know, they've dominated the medal table several games in a row now,

00:27especially on a Paralympic level, and in fencing particularly, they've always been the ones to beat,

00:31and they don't have just a huge number of athletes, but the depth of these athletes

00:36are just absolutely incredible. My opponent in the foil event on the Wednesday was a two-time

00:44Paralympic champion, he won in Rio and he won in London, Rio was his first games.

00:48Previously his teammate, who won the bronze medal this time, has won the previous three

00:51games before him, so for at least five years now the foil has been dominated by Chinese athletes.
