Boeing's Starliner undocks from space station  Boeing's Starliner spacecraft undocked from the International Space Station on Sept. 6, 2024 leaving behind its first crew of US astronauts to return to Earth empty and finish a drawn-out test mission fraught with technical issues. NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, who became the first two to fly Starliner in June, remained on the ISS with seven other astronauts 250 miles (400 km) in orbit as Starliner autonomously departed the laboratory at 6:04 p.m. ET (2204 GMT) for a six-hour journey toward Earth. It will reenter Earth's atmosphere at around 11:17 p.m. (0317 GMT on September 7), followed by a 12:03 a.m. parachute-assisted touchdown at the White Sands Space Harbor, an arid military test site in New Mexico. 00:00Separation confirmed.

00:11Starliner is now backing away from station and starting its return to Earth.

00:16Starliner thrusters will then complete two short firings to gradually increase the separation

00:20speed to help the spacecraft carefully move away from the organization.

00:27The vehicle is now about two meters away from the International Space Station.

00:31At the time of undocking, Starliner and the International Space Station were flying approximately

00:35260 miles per hour.

00:45Starliner will be beginning a breakout burn soon, which will take the spacecraft forward

00:49and above station.

00:51Into the burn sequence, Starliner will exit the keep out sphere or the KOS.

01:04Confirmation all 27 jets have fired.

01:10And you're seeing the light show there on your screen.

01:18And the first three of the 12 firings have completed and there's about a 100 second

01:22pause from the International Space Station.

01:26And we heard confirmation of a good burn nine, three more to go.
